"Is that Dick?" Lani questioned, walking towards Kory who was leaning against a wall with the phone in her ear. Kory nodded at Lani's question quietly and Lani moved her ear closer to the phone. She didn't need to but it sure did help in annoying Kory which she loved to do at times.
"You know, next time you decide to ditch us, don't promise Rachel shit like that." Lani put her lips closer to the mic on Kory's phone. She could hear him sighing on the other side. Lani could feel the guilt from the phone and walked into the other room with some snacks she got from the vending machine downstairs. Kory silently agreed with her. Once she got off the phone with Dick, she walked into Lani's room where the three teenagers were all sitting around and talking.
"Get up. We're going to Dick."
✴️
They all stood at the door in silence. Gar pushed a button that was on the wall. Soon, they heard a beep and saw themselves on the monitor where the eye scanner seemed to be and both Gar and Lani looked at the camera at the top left of the supposed door with curiosity. Gar waved and Lani smiled while nodding her head in acknowledgement of the camera.
"You know, when you said safe house, I pictured level 1 to be at least a little bigger." Lani said towards the camera as Jason's eyebrows lifted up in interest as Dick rolled his eyes. The two had been watching the camera from inside the house. A smile almost creeping to his face until he made sure it didn't, keeping his frown on.

"Oh." Lani muttered as she walked in and looked around, seeing how spacious it was and both her and Gar looked to the top in astonishment. The ceiling was so high and it was more spacious than level 1. "Okay, maybe I did speak too soon." Lani realized as she almost ran into Jason who deliberately situated himself in front of Lani who wasn't watching where she was going at all. He smiled over at her and she looked at him weirdly before stepping back. He was too close for her liking and she was a little weirded out by him.
"Who are your friends?" Jason asked. Lani glared daggers at him. She nodded her head in greeting, awkwardly before walking over to the dining room and settling on pulling out a chair and sitting on it. Rachel and Gar followed suit towards the dining table with a large window behind the head of the table which shone light into it. The ambience of the place was sort of melancholy but that was a normal occurrence. The sun never shined on them. Lani noticed almost instantly.
"Not important." Dick said quickly in his monotone voice. He wanted to get straight to the point.
"Who's he?" Kory asked as Dick repeated the same answer to Kory, looking a little jealous. Lani looked at Rachel and shrugged. Both teenage girls could see the little emotions behind each action and made sure the other saw it.
"Anybody want a brew?" Jason asked as he lifted the beer up and Gar nodded, standing up to walk over to him.
"Yeah, I do." Gar replied.
"We'll pass." Lani countered the same time as Gar. Lani turned her head towards Gar and sent him a look as he quieted down and sat beside her.
"Hasn't anyone told you to not accept anything from strangers?" Lani whispered in a hush voice towards Gar who rolled his eyes and ignored it, not knowing how to answer.
"No, he doesn't. No one wants a brew." Dick said as Gar deflated beside Lani who laughed lightly before messing with his hair. Gar glared at the girl who quickly stopped before turning away.
"That can't be Adamson." Kory changed the subject quickly as Dick's attention averted to her. Jason walked over to the trio but closer to Lani as she looked at him weirdly and leaned away. Why is he getting so close? She thought, growing annoyed with him now.
