Joplin's POV
I woke up smiling and quickly getting ready for the day. I wore a blue flannel over a black tshirt and jeans with a black belt along with some work boots.i thought about getting a baseball cap but, i decided against it. I heard someone knock on the door, I opened it seeing darry and smiled. He gave a slight grin "ready?" He asked quietly.
"Yeah. Let's go!" I said excitedly.
We walked over to his truck getting in and driving to the interview at the roofing company he worked for. I looked around amazed at the building they had for a roofing company.
"Ah. Darrel is this the Joplin Winston you've been telling me about?" His boss asked
"Yes sir." Darry smiled.
"Pleased to meet you." I smiled and shook his hand. I liked Darry's boss already.
"So, you only need a few qualifications. Can you lift 75 pounds?"
"Yes sir."
"Can you stand for more than 4 hours?"
"Yes sir."
"Are you afraid of heights?"
"No sir"
"And finally, do you respect others even when frustrated."
"Yes sir." I smiled. Boss man looked at darry and he nodded in confirmation.
"I like this one." The boss smiled "you're hired, Why don't you and Darrel go ahead and get the day started." He smiled.
Throughout the day I learned how to roof houses and when the day was over the gang and I were all at the Curtis residence. I had extra clothes there for when I stayed the night and usually kept spare jeans and a t-shirt in my backpack.
"Darry I'm not sure roofing houses are really my thing." I said looking at him from the couch.
"That's what I thought when I started working there. JP you're a natural! You learn quicker than Steve." He smiled
"I heard that." Steve stayed coming in before a laughing Sodapop. "Shut it soda." He growled
"Thanks Darry but I don't think that's much of an achievement to learn quicker than Steve." I laughed
"Shut your trap Missouri man." Steve tried to hide a smile but failed. I hated the nickname but they all called me something different.
"Only when you do Steve Rogers." I smiled and yeeted a captain America comic at him.
"You want this destroyed?!" Steve was mad and everyone else was laughing.
"I've got another copy at home." I smiled
"Maybe Steve and I could get you a job at the DX?" Soda suggested between laughs.
I shrugged "I'll give this one a few weeks and see how much I like it."
Soda shrugged and got a coke for me and him. "Thanks Pepsi-cola." I smirked.
Soda rolled his eyes smiling. Johnny looked tired and dal looked extremely bored so I decided it was time to take those two home, or at least to my place. "I'll see you tomorrow Darry." I smiled saying my good byes and picking up Johnny taking him to my truck. Dal followed knowing I was going home.
We got there and I let Johnny sleep in my room since he had been having it rough at home. Dal looked at me and smiled. "What is it Texas boy?" I asked smiling.
"Nothin just nice to see Johnny peacefully sleeping after a rough day. By the way, pony, Johnny and I were going to see a movie tomorrow. I was wondering if you'd wanna come with us."
"Thanks dal but I've got some stuff to do. I won't be able to. If anything happens though, tell the boys you three could come here." I smiled going to shower
He shrugged "I'm going to bucks tonight."
"Alright, check in with me tomorrow so I know you ain't dead." I laughed before actually showering.
After my shower I got in some athletic shorts and a white t shirt then checked on Johnny to find him still asleep. I took his jacket and put it on the chair beside my book case then went to clean Dally's room a little before going to sleep in the couch.
I woke up to find myself in a field playing football with the gang. I was on darry's team with soda and Steve.
"Cmon Missouri man, I'm open!" Steve yelled and I threw the ball to him tripping over my foot and being caught by Darry.
"JP, you ok?" He asked hiding a small laugh
I blushed "yeah I'm ok Superman." I laughed standing straight up. But something felt off.
I looked around and Johnny and dally were no where to be seen. "What the he-" Steve said and disappeared.
"Steve?!" Soda yelled looking for him
Then pony was gone "oh my god..." I started hyperventilating as two bit and soda disappeared. It was me and Darry.
"JP!" He was gone
I shot up to some one shaking me. It was Johnny.
"Joplin, you ok?" He asked worried
"Yeah I'm ok kid."
"I heard you saying our names while you were asleep. You sounded scared."
"It's ok, just a bad dream is all. Hey Johnny, what time is it?"
"5:37. Why?"
"Give my alarm 3 minutes." I laughed. "If you wanna stay here and sleep a little longer you can." I smiled messing his already messy hair.
"I should get home before my folks wake up."
"I'll drive you. It's on my way to work." I got up putting on the grey/blue button up and work-boots as well as jeans for work. I grabbed my keys and wallet then headed out giving Johnny his jacket.
"Thanks Jp."
"Did you get that from Darry?"
"Yeah, thought it was better than 'Missouri man', 'j-lin', or even mama-J. he laughed. I did too cause it was true.
I drove Johnny home and headed to work and my god was it a slow day.
A few hours later I got a call from a very panicked Darry. By that I mean he called me at about 2 in the morning.
"JP?!"
"Darry? What's wrong?" I asked tiredly
"I-I hit pony. I don't know why but he ran off and I don't know where he is!"
