Here i am. The steering wheel in front of me, all my crew waiting for the start of Qualifying in Albert Park.
When it starts, i go out of the pit lane steadily, hoping for a pass in Q1.
I slice through the corners at a good pace (for Williams), getting the 14th best Sector 1.
Then i get a really bad exit from the last corner at sector two, which pulls me to 16th.
But i get really good corners into sector three, that guarantees me P12.
"You got P12 from that one, awesome job, Charlotte." Says my engineer, Lawrence, through the radio.
"Thanks Lawrence, i hope that i go again as fast as possible, mate."
The Q1 is ending, the crew sends me to another lap.
Again, i make a very good sector one, pushing me to P11.
But i oversteered due to loss of aero at the start of sector two, making me lose five places, into P16.
I can recover, though. I get a P13 out of Sector 3, i am into Q2!
"Awesome job there, Charlotte. P13! Amazing, really splendid." Says my happy engineer.
"Thank you, Lawrence. Into Q2 we go, mate!"
Q2 starts normally, BUT...
"ISSUE! ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE!" I shout to my engineer.
"Stop the car now. Stop the car. I am really sorry, Charlotte."
The car stopped at the pit lane, bringing out a red flag.
I will start at P20 because of the engine, that is bad news.
But not if we can fix it!
Timeskip to 21:00, Williams Garage.
I enter the Williams Garage.
My entry there shocks the engineers.
"What are you doing here, Charlotte?" Says Ross, my chief engineer.
"I want to help you guys, i know how those engines work." I say to Ross.
"Welcome aboard then, come on!"
And i stay up with them until 03:00, fixing the engine and helping them with some planning to the performance.
We all go home, engine fixed.
Timeskip to the next day, 14:00, Starting Grid.
Here i am, then.
On the starting grid, at P20. The engine is now more powerful than my rivals ahead, Stroll and Giovinazzi.
1 light...
2...
3...4...
5...
LIGHTS OUT!
I get an excellent start and, with the engine this good at the straight, i got past Giovinazzi and i am fighting with Stroll.
He gains on me at the corners, because of my car's bad aero.
But i get such a go on the main straight at Lap 3, with DRS enabled, and i go past the Racing Point into P18!
"Absolutely amazing performance against Stroll, next one ahead is Ricciardo." Says Lawrence through the radio.
Ricciardo has no front wing and my engine is way better, so i make my way, without DRS, through Daniel Ricciardo and into P17 at lap 5.
"Fantastic job, fantastic job. Next one ahead is Robert, he is 6.7 seconds ahead." Says Lawrence.
"Copy that."
After 8 laps behind Robert, i get DRS at the main straight of lap 13, and i complete the job into turn one, into P16 we go!
"Let's go boys!" I say.
"Let's get ahead of 'em!" Says Lawrence at the radio.
I saw Räikkönen ahead of me, Lawrence left him all to me.
His Ferrari engine was great, the fights were massive.
But i still go ahead of him at turn 1.
He comes back on me at turn 2 and he goes ahead. Side by side into turn 3, i repass him.
"P15, we are into Plan A, Plan A plus 5, we are in Lap 17."
Plan A plus 5 means that i will pit at lap 28.
Into lap 23, i went into a four-wide with Norris, Grosjean and Giovinazzi, where i got past Norris and Grosjean at the straight, and Giovinazzi into Turn One.
Time passed, nothing happened, until i saw Gasly and Kvyat having a scrap ahead.
I used them to get DRS, and eventually got past the two of them.
I end the race into P10, fantastic result on the debut!
