Chapter 5: Surprise

It's been a month now since I've been in North Carolina. I've been extremely busy. I've been getting my fathers business back on track so I've had several meetings to attend to. My dad owned a huge advertising business which is called Sylvester, our surname. Im in the CEO office of the top floor of the huge building downtown. I have finally found a good secretary and I have caught up on everything here. I will be leaving tomorrow morning on my private jet to go back to Indiana to visit my wife, Mel. I haven't told her that I'm coming back. I'm going to surprise her for Valentine's Day. I booked a reservation at a fancy restaurant in the city. I'm hoping we can work things out between us because here lately we haven't been on the best of terms. She is still against moving here. I'm hoping that this will help soften her up some. We have been married for 4 years now and it seems like it has went by so fast.

I check my wrist watch and it's later than I thought. I've been working on my computer for 4 hours now. Its almost midnight. Everyone else has been gone for hours now. Once I start working though its hard for me to stop and I get caught up in it. I could work all day without stopping. My secretary has to remind me frequently about meetings and even breaks for eating. I love to work and I love being the boss. I have full control over everything. That is how I like to work though. I could never have a job where I wasn't in charge. Now that I have two businesses to attend to in two different states, things are going to get even more stressful. I really need Mel's support with this, so hopefully she will try and be understanding.

I take my suit jacket off the coat hanger and put it on. I turn off my computer and put my papers into the filing cabinet. I grab my keys and turn the lights out as I leave. I take the elevator down to the first floor where I see the last of security waiting for me. They know I'm always the last one out.

"Make sure the building is secured, then you are free to go gentlemen. Have a good night," I tell them as I walk towards the front doors that have huge capital S's on them.

"Good night, Mr. Sylvester." They tell me in unison.

I get into my Audi and turn on the radio then I head for the hotel. Ryan has been staying at the hotel while I work since the building has plenty of security. He has probably been out hooking up with women while I work. He is a bachelor type and he loves women. As long as he isn't drinking too much, then I don't care. I can still call him if I need him for anything and he makes sure he is here during the nights, so that's all I care about. I can never be too sure anymore. Especially since the last time my half brother was out of prison and tried to find me.

He is a leader of a gang. He has been in prison since a little after my dad passed away. His name is Jason. And we have different mothers. Jason was pissed when he found out my dad gave me the business once he passed away. My dad wanted me to have it because Jason was a disappointment to our father. Jason was always in trouble and my dad basically disowned him when he got into the gang life. Jason tracked me down at my business in Indy. He came in with his gang members and held everyone at gun point until I would give myself up. Luckily Ryan followed Jason when I went with him. Ryan called backup from his security team and then they came to get me. It was a bloody mess. In the end Jason and several of his gang members were arrested. Ever since then I make sure Ryan is with me. My brother Jason is unpredictable and I know it's just a matter of time before he gets out before his time is up. When it is I will be ready this time. I am always carrying now and I always have Ryan or my security close by when possible.

I finally pull into the hotel parking lot. Its late so valet isn't here. I park and walk into the building. I'm not exactly tired yet so I think I'll go to the gym they have by the pool. Once I'm in my room I change into shorts and a t-shirt then I knock on Ryans door. He answers immediately.
