At the end of the Great Hall, where the professors would sit and eat, stood a very small group of house-elves, the only people who stood out being Filch and a lady in pink with a smug look on her face. Confused students flooded the Great Hall well past curfew time, having been awaken by their respective Head of House professors; even they seemed confused as to why Umbridge would summon them at such a late hour.
Students whispered amongst each other in curiosity, heads snapping towards Umbridge as she took a step forward to speak.
"Thank you all for coming here on such short notice, but it has come to my attention that we have a traitor among us," affirmed Umbridge.
In the middle of the crowd stood Harry, Ron and Hermione, seemingly just as confused as everyone else. Hermione looked around, her brown orbs surveying every single student she laid eyes on, in hopes to find her significant other. It wasn't common for the Slytherin to disappear all day without warning her, and she hadn't seen her girlfriend since the night before. But, to her horror, she found her beloved chained up to the floor right behind Umbridge.
"Miss Lupus here has been taken into questioning early this morning, as a report had been filed against her," the lady in pink continued her small speech, walking around the Slytherin like a hunter does to its prey. She threw a glare towards Filch, but masked it by smiling sweetly.
The man swallowed in dry and walked behind the student, muttering something next to her ear before pulling her head back by her hair, revealing her face; the sound of shackles echoed through the Great Hall. Gasps were heard.
One of Charlie's eyes was black, certainly from the questioning she was submitted to, she had a bleeding nose, and a gash both on her eyebrow and bottom lip. Professor McGonagall was quick to protest against Umbridge's actions, but the latter would have none of it.
"Since Miss Lupus refuses to tell us the truth, we will give her a small push," beamed Umbridge as she glanced at a house elf. Hermione was quick to identify the strange vial Umbridge now held in her hands.
"That's Veritaserum!" she whispered. "Oh, no. Harry, we need to get her out of there!"
"There has to be a way," replied Harry with a worried voice.
Charlie's eyes roamed the crowd in search of her friends, but most importantly... Hermione. As Umbridge approached her, she spat at her feet; even her saliva had blood in it. Her eyes darted to the bushy brown haired Gryffindor as Umbridge forcefully made Charlie chug down the truth potion. Before the effect took in, the Slytherin was able to scream a hoarse "I'm so sorry, I tried."
Everyone was silent for what seemed an eternity before the mischievous pink lady giggled, motioning for Filch to pull the student's head back up, so she was staring right at her classmates.
"Miss Lupus, what is your full name?"
"Charlie Raphaela Lupus," it was possible to hear a small grunt coming from her, perhaps as an attempt to shield the truth she wished to hide.
"Who are your parents?"
"Never met them. I'm an orphan." It wasn't entirely a lie.
"Tell me, Charlie," Umbridge continued to walk around the Slytherin with predatory eyes. "Is there something you're hiding from all of us? Perhaps something dangerous?"
At that, Charlie scoffed. "Well, I am a girl and I have bigger dick energy than most guys."
Some of the students chuckled, most of them misunderstanding the truth behind her words. It was known Charlie showed more courage than most of her Slytherin mates. Hermione, on the other hand, feared for her girlfriend all the while wearing a small, faint blush on her cheeks.
"Enough with the remarks! You will tell us at once that you are a traitor!" Umbridge shouted and quickly had one of the house-elves smack Charlie in the stomach.
"Are you working for Voldemort?"
"No."
"Then, how do you explain the dark mark on your left forearm?" She smirked and ripped off the respective sleeve, exposing the ugly mark of the dark lord. Gasps were heard through the Great Hall, as Charlie attempted to pull her arm away. The sound of the chains moving on the floor sent waves of horror down Hermione's spine.
"He put it there. He cornered me, he marked me. He has no regard for anyone, not even me."
"Ah, there we go. Say, why would he show mercy towards you? A simple girl, nothing too fascinating. Oh! That's right, you're not completely normal either, are you? Tell your classmates what happens to you during a full moon!"
"I'm... I'm a werewolf. I was bitten when I was young."
"Certainly someone the Dark Lord would want by his side, but that's not all, is it? Care to tell us what does the R in your name truly stands for?"
"... Riddle."
"Tell us your full name, miss Lupus. And do not lie."
"Charlie Riddle Lupus. Tom Riddle... Voldemort is my father. He marked me during summer while I was visiting my-" Charlie choked on her words as tears fell down her eyes, an attempt to find a way to still keep that piece of her life a secret.
"Your what, Miss Lupus?" Umbridge smirked.
Harry looked at Hermione and held her hand, to which she gripped in fright. Her eyes met Charlie's and she nodded, mouthing her a "It's okay." Charlie trembled as her eyes connected with Hermione's, she just wanted to protect her. By then, the interrogation had gone for nearly half an hour - Charlie was slow on her replies due to the pain she felt.
"Spit it out at once!"
"My girlfriend. While I was visiting her, we had gone to Diagon Alley because... I wanted to surprise her by buying her a few books, but he found me and cornered me inside an old shop."
"So, not only are you a werewolf, a Death Eater, but you are also - mm, what's it called? Ah! A lesbian, is that it?"
"Y-yes," the Slytherin choked on her words once more.
"Is this girlfriend of yours attending Hogwarts? Who is she?"
At that, Hermione trembled. Her eyes connected with Charlie once more, and she saw the fear in her girlfriend's eyes. Just as Charlie was to reply, her dark red eyes grew brighter and a small, cocky smirk surfaced on her lips.
"Merlin, you're so interested in others love lives, are you not? Are you dying to know that I've gotten laid more times than you, cat lady?" Charlie laughed darkly as the effect of the truth potion wore off.
Hermione watched as her Slytherin gained enough strength to stand up, the shackles around her clinking together. That smirk, those beautiful red orbs she had fallen in love with... At that moment, she remembered how far and how much Charlie had grown up since they had met.
She remembered the day Charlie had told her, on a chilly winter night on their third year, everything she knew about her past. Little did she know there was so much more to it...
