'Pack. We leave at midnight,' the note said. Madi had come home and found it sitting on her bed after school. She had been so excited for her birthday party that night to notice it at first. The note was typed, so she had no idea who it was from. Was it a prank? Was it part of a birthday present from her parents? Was it her little brother messing with her? She had no idea who it was from or what it meant. What was she supposed to pack? Madi didn't want to ignore the note in case it was real, so she grabbed a backpack from her closet and packed the essentials. She started with a few simple outfits, socks, and a pair of gym shoes. Then, she added some bottles of water and a few snacks just in case. Hesitantly, she added a pocket knife to the front pouch of the backpack in case she needed it. She put the bag in her closet so no one would question a packed backpack in her spotless room on a Friday night and went to decorate for her party. Whatever the note meant and whoever it was from could wait. She wouldn't let the note ruin her 16th birthday. She had a party to get ready for!
