They had told you the party was going to be one to remember, but after losing track of how much you'd drank, you couldn't even remember where you were. Maybe it had been the sight of your ex making out with Miguel that set you off. Or maybe it was the fact that you were stressed from exam week and needed to let loose a bit too much. Either way, you somehow found yourself staggering along a hiking trail in the woods behind the old abandoned mansion.

The world passed by you in a blur, the ground shifted under your feet as you leaned heavily against a tree. You looked down at the bottle in your hand and wondered how it got there in the first place before you down the remnants of the booze.

A quick glance around made you realize that you had no clue where to go from here and the path split into three just up ahead. You looked back over your shoulder, toying with the thought of just going back. Just as you're about to turn around and return to society, you remembered Miguel and Sarah. Something spasmed in your chest and you decided to get lost in the woods instead of dealing with that.

You randomly chose the second pathway, wandering aimlessly until it brought you to another fork in the road, this one with two paths. You wandered down the second path, your feet getting heavier as the shadows deepened. When you couldn't see, you pulled out your phone and shined the flashlight down the trail. Your eyes widened at what you saw.

Just ahead, you spotted an old iron gate with a sign reading 'Government Property'. Through the thick underbrush, you could just make out a towering facility in the distance. A strange ringing sound filled your ear and drowned out the sounds of nature.

You once again thought about turning back. It wasn't too late to return to the party. Hell, you could even explain in your drunken stupor what you had seen.

Would they believe you, though? Would anyone believe that you hadn't just passed out in the woods and had a fever dream? No... No, you would need proof.

It was that need for evidence and a strange, sudden curiosity that pushed you onwards. The gate let out a groan as you clambered over the top of it. You shined your flashlight around the area in a wide sweep before glancing back at the gate.

There was no turning back now.
