Into the Hornet's Nest

A/N: Because of the fact that this duel is really dragging, I will be shortening this duel to this one chapter. The original Yugioh often had super long and detailed duels that would last for so many episodes (sometimes, not all the time).

In addition, since the rules for Yugioh were not completely established during the Original Anime Series, it's going to be pretty difficult to write the Duelist Kingdom Tournament, especially with all those "Screw the Rules!" moments that happen every single episode (looking at you Panik).

On another note, Attack, Defense, and Life Points are really wonky in this arc. I mean, you got Life Points dropping to like 748 and Attack Points going to 1986 (yes this happened). I'm just gonna stick to the fifties and zeroes mark. It's much easier to calculate. Also the turns will not be labeled unless I start it from the beginning of a duel, it's hard to keep track of the turn count in Season 1.

So until I get to Season 2, AKA Battle City, all the Rules are out the window!

ENJOY!!!

-Time Skip-

By early morning, the ship had docked on a harbor, letting all the duelists off the boat and onto dry land. Hanako re-adjusted her shoulder bag as she walked off the ship. Looking around, she noticed Yugi and his friends not too far from her. One of them seemed to be trying to blend in, but failed, miserably.

Shrugging, Hanako made her way up the long trek up some stone steps that led to a magnificent castle. When she got to the top, she leaned against the trunk of one of the nearby trees and waited for any further developments. As more duelists gather around the base of the castle, the more gossip she heard.

"Wow look, that's Weevil Underwood! He's the Regional Champion!"

"And that's the runner-up, Rex Raptor!"

"And there's Mako Tsunami, he was ranked third!"

"Wow! These are all the best duelists in the world! But where's the World Champion, Kaiba?"

"Didn't ya hear?! Some kid beat him, on his own turf too."

"Are you serious?! I thought Kaiba was the best!"

"He was, but not anymore."

"Yugi's supposed to be the one to beat now."

Hanako silently chuckled at the gossip. It's hard to believe that little Yugi was the one to beat Seto Kaiba, but she guessed that if they have a good deck and know how to play their cards right, they can beat anyone.

"Attention! Please gather around!" came an announcement. "Your benevolent host is anxious to greet you all!"

And thus, the Creator of Duel Monsters himself stepped out onto the balcony, Maximillion Pegasus!

"Greetings Duelists! I am Maximillion Pegasus!" greeted the silver haired man. "It is my great honor and pleasure to welcome you all to the Duelist Kingdom! You stand before me, the world's greatest duelists. But come tournament's end, only one shall be crowned King or Queen of Games! I implore you all to assemble your dueling decks with care, with creativity, and with cunning!"

Hanako pulled out her deck, knowing that she had worked hard to build her deck. She was not giving her cards up for anything.

"For this competition will test your skills like never before!" continued Pegasus. "To track your progress in the tournament, you've each been given a Dueling Glove, you've also been given two precious Star Chips. You must wager these Star Chips on each duel you compete in. To advance to the final level of competition for a chance at the Three Million Dollar Prize, you must win ten Star Chips!"
