Piper never crossed me as a rich girl. Rich girls are suppose to be snotty, mean, and hate everyone that wasn't rich. Piper was none of those. When i saw her house I was more than shocked. A huge mansion with a fountain in front and a balcony on the upper floor. "Dang." That was all I could think to say. "Dang." Rina agreed. In the driveway they had a convertible, a infinity, and two corvettes. "Well I guess we should go knock." I suggested. "Or ring the doorbell. I like the noise the doorbell makes." Rina said. The path to the door had little etchings on the sides of the cements. They looked like some kind of fancy vine, if vines can be fancy. Rina rang the doorbell and the song Michelle by the Beatles played. "Ok, that's pretty cool." I said in admiration. "I know. I love their doorbell so much." Rina said, perky as always. Piper answered the door, and she was dressed quite nicely, making me feel bad in jeans and a t-shirt. She was wearing a white dress with a gold waste band and white fleece around the bottom. "Hey guys! We are almost ready for dinner. Why don't yall come take a seat a second while we finish up real quick." Piper offered. "Sure!" Rina said. The inside was probably the biggest thing I've ever seen. When you went inside there was a door to your right and left or a hallway in front of you leading to the living room. The hallway was a giant mirror on either side, so I got to see how hideous I looked the whole way down. When we got to the living room Piper had us sit on a couch and she went to the kitchen. The living room was really tall and really big. There were two couches with a coffee table between them, a flat screen hanging on the wall, glass sliding doors leading outside onto the back porch, and fireplace that was lit, a few book shelfs, and stairs on the side to go upstairs. "Wow. It must be nice to live here." I said. "Yea. Did you notice the huge backyard complete with a hot tub, in-ground pool, and Waterfall going into the pool?" She asked, reminding me of a guy on TV trying to sell something. "Yes. This is something. Everything here screams 'Hey look I'm rich' but I'm still finding it hard to process." I said. "Oh and just a heads up, Piper has three sisters and a brother. Cilia, the oldest girl, is 19. Hailey, the second oldest, is 17. Travis, her brother, is 16. Then Anna, the youngest, is 9." Rina informed me. "Ok, are yall ready for dinner?" Piper asked walking back into the living room. "Sure, I'm really hungry." I said. Wow I sounded stupid, but hey, a house fire can make a girl hungry. I was trying my best not to think about that but it wasn't working. Anyway, we went into the kitchen, quite impressive kitchen I might add, and sat down with her family. The kitchen had a oven, obviously, and other common things like a microwave, toaster oven, and refrigerator, and other things like a Keurig coffee maker too. They had nice white cabinets with fancy swirls etchings, and nice black granite countertops. It was huge and had a giant crystal chandelier. "Hi, I'm Candice, nice to meet you, Lucy, Rina." Piper's mom said. "Hi. Thank you for having us over for dinner." I said, trying my best to smile. "No problem," she said smiling, "you are welcome here anytime." "Well since you said that.... could we possibly stay here tonight?" Rina asked, suddenly jumping in. I whacked her under the table. I was planning to ask Piper about it later when we were alone. "Uh, It's j-just..." I tried to contain myself but I started crying. "Her house burned down earlier, so we kinda have no place to stay." Rina explained. "I'm so sorry dears! Of course yall can stay! Yall can stay as long as long as yall need." Candice said. "Thank you. May we be excused for one second real quick?" Rina asked. "Sure." Candice said. Rina and I went to the other room and she tried to calm me down a bit. After I stopped crying we went back and helped clean up dinner. I felt bad for ruining everyone's night. "Why don't we go up to my room and get ready for bed." Piper said, motioning for Rina and I to follow. We followed her up the wooden stairs to her room. If I thought the kitchen was nice, It was nothing compared to her room. The entire upstairs was her room. It had a bathroom with a sliding door separating it from the room. She had a giant walk in closet. A bed with a canopy so it looked like a princess bed. She went across the room and grabbed something from her dresser and brought it to us. "Here" she said handing us matching silk pajamas,"Why don't yall shower and get changed into these." The mention of a shower sounded so good, it almost sounded like Heaven. Rina looked at me with a happy look. "We get to match!" she said, her smile growing bigger.
I took as shower, and when I got out, Rina was sitting on the bed chatting with Piper. I went over and sat with them. It's been a while since I had time with just girls to talk. "Jason took we to the zoo the other day, and we got to see a hippo give birth. It was awful and adorable. Mostly awful." Piper said. "How long have you guys been dating?" Rina asked. "Um. Just about 17 months." She replied. "What's it like? To have a boyfriend I mean." I asked, wanting to know, but afraid I would make it awkward.
Piper lean back and laid down, "It's amazing. Waking up, knowing somewhere cares. Someone who is always looking out for you. Someone who loves to spend time with. Someone who never minds listening to your problems. It's just.... Amazing." She said. After that we all sat there, cherishing this, until we fell asleep.
