Detention

One of the crude things about Invictus High (Felix's school), was that they payed special attention to the discipline of their students. The brand spanking new detention room that had just been refurbished, re painted, and re carpeted, smelled of choking disinfectant. The only features of the room were wooden desks, plastic chairs, a teacher and a window that was sealed into the wall so it wouldn't open. As Felix trudged into the room, he handed the teacher his detention slip, mumbled "Felix Blueman" and took a seat. As he sat in the cold, hard plastic chair, he saw her walk through the door. Even though she seemed flustered, sweaty and almost a wreck after last period doing sport in the blistering hot sun, she still looked incredibly beautiful. She walked over to the teacher and handed the teacher her detention slip, she said "Valentine Dunst" and sat down. Felix didn't want her to stop talking, her voice sounded like rich golden honey that could be bottled and sold to lonely people. Valentine walked quickly to her seat and sat down with her bag in her lap. She was directly opposite Felix. The door that was still open let a breeze into the room that blew around Valentine and into Felix. To him, it smelled like a meadow of roses ready to be picked. But before Felix could submit himself to the scent, the teacher toddled over to the door and shut it. Ironically, the detention teacher was Mr. Jones. If only he had been in maths. "So what have you two little munchkins done to earn yourself an after school detention with me?", Mr. Jones asked in his old croaky voice. Neither students answered but Valentine giggled a little bit. "Quiet are we?", Mr. Jones croaked. "Well I think I might just take a nap at the back of the room, please don't leave for the next hour but you can do whatever you want" he smiled.

After Mr. Jones had nodded off, the detention room was entirely silent. Valentine only texted on her phone, giggling at some of the replies, and Felix just sat there annoyed. He didn't like to think that someone else could be making her smile and laugh, especially just through reading words. He just wished she would drop the phone and forget about who she was talking to. It wasn't a nice thing to wish the misfortune on someone else but sometimes feelings are too strong to overcome. As Felix kept staring at Valentine, he wasn't fully aware of it and eventually he was caught. After Valentine had finished texting someone, she giggled and looked up and around the room. It wasn't until her eyes landed on Felix that she realised what he was doing. "Yeah?", Valentine asked. "Oh oh noth-" Felix tried saying but was so embarrassed that he forgot how to speak. He went bright red and even though he kept trying to make noises she said smirking, "Save it, I don't want you hurting yourself". Felix sat there dumbfounded at an utter loss for words that went from embarrassment to anger to sadness. He just wanted to tell her how he felt so bad. Then when the hour for detention was up, he cracked. He stood up and said, "Valentine". She didn't look up, she seemed to be too absorbed in her phone. He tried again, "Valentine". Still she didn't move. "Valentine please look at me". But she wouldn't move, come to think of it, she wasn't even blinking. Felix took a closer look. When he did, he was shocked by what he saw. Valentine was completely frozen in place, smiling at her phone's screen, not moving. No rise of the chest to show she was breathing, no quick flicks of her eyes as she read the screen, she wasn't even making a noise. No giggle, nothing. When Felix looked at the clock, that wasn't moving either and there was no snoring coming from Mr. Jones. Felix realised he had frozen time. And realised this was a perfect opportunity. "Valentine, I want you back!", he screamed. "I miss you so much, and I can't stop thinking about you. I get so jealous when you text other people and laugh at your messages and talk to other guys. I just can't stand the thought of someone else making you happy when I'm right here. I just want to be the one to make you laugh, I want to be the one that gets to hug you at the end of the day, and I want to be the one that gets to kiss you goodnight". Still, she didn't move and didn't show any sign of a reaction. "I still love you". After Felix said this, he grabbed his bag and left the room. But as he opened the door and left the detention room, time started again. And the girl with the blonde hair and brown eyes watched as the boy she wanted the most left the classroom. Left, before she could tell him how she felt.
