It was a strange feeling, Kat decided.  Multiple things had changed in what felt like such a short amount of time, and it was all so wonderfully strange. She was off the streets. She had her own clothes after Charles had insisted that Raven take her out to buy some.  Charles had taught her to embrace her mutation, had taught her to control it. Her real name had become far more bearable, especially considering the way it sounded when Charles said it.  Suddenly, she liked her name.  And she liked who she was.  She had spent too many years hating herself just for being born to be who she was.

Charles had made her see something different.

"Your brother has the heart of a poet," Kat said to Raven one morning as she slipped into the kitchen, a smile on her lips. Raven was busying herself by making pancakes. The others must have been either asleep or occupied somewhere else in the mansion.

"You think so?" Raven asked smiling smiled as she looked back at Kat. "I can think of a few things that would possibly make you say that."

"Oh, yeah?" Kat slipped into a chair at the table. "And what reasons would that be?"

"Number one on the list would be that you slept with him, but I don't think you'd do that just yet."

Kat raised her eyebrows and sat back, crossing her arms with an amused expression on her face. "Raven," she drew her name out slowly. "Do you know who I am?  I used to sleep with people for money."

"Keywords, Kat. 'Used to.'" Raven pointed out as she flipped a pancake in the pan she was cooking in. "And he wouldn't sleep with you yet"

        "Yet?"

        "You know what I mean."

For a moment, Kat considered trying to read my mind, though she had promised she wouldn't.

"Don't even think about it," Raven said casually as if she knew exactly what Kat was thinking.

Kat almost laughed at that. "What, are you a telepath, now?"

"No," Raven answered, turning to look at Kat with a hint of a smile. "Just grew up with one."
