Buckle up boys, this is a long one.

It was T-minus 1 week until Valentines day and I was to the point where I could not stand all of my friends talking about their boyfriends and girlfriends. The thing I was fearing most was going to a valentines party my family was throwing, alone. My aunties were constantly asking where my boyfriend was at every reunion we had.

When I was growing up, I always looked forward to being in love, just like the rest of my family. Falling in love in their early 20s and getting married not too long after. That was my dream as a kid. But now here I was, 28, and haven't had a truly meaningful relationship pretty much ever. Even though my family tried to support that I didn't have a boyfriend, I could see that they were pitying me. This year, I wasn't going to face that look in their eyes.

So I went to the boy I trusted most, Daniel Atlas. Now, I know what you're thinking, 'the playboy who dazzles every girl in a 10 mile radius into sleeping with him?'. Correct, Danny and I had been friends for years. I had met him at a magic show and ever since, we had been pretty close. He knew my hatred towards my family's pity, so I'm sure he will help me. It wasn't long until I was outside of Danny's apartment, ringing his room.

"Who is it?" The speaker buzzed unsteadily.

"It's Y/n. I need to ask you a favor." The door unlocked and I headed to his loft where he was waiting in the doorway. I walked in, setting my purse on his coffee table. "Alright I'm not gonna waste any time getting to it. I need you to be my fake boyfriend for a Valentines party my family is throwing in a few days. I'm so *sick* of my family taking pity on me because I can't get a boyfriend. I don't want to be the-"

"Y/n I get it," he giggled, "I will totally be your fake boyfriend. Can I bring my cards to woo your family into loving me?" He asked with a sly smile.

"I mean, if you want to." I smiled. I knew he would be willing to help me out. This was going to be the best party I've been to, I can finally remember what it feels like to have people look at you without pity. I haven't felt it since I was probably 15. "Ok, so let's go over a few things. My mom and aunties are going to smother you. They love new people in the family and won't stop talking to you. Don't wear anything too formal, just like nice Jean's and a button up."

"Wow, very specific rules. Do you want me to do a handstand outside of the house before I walk in?" I smacked his arm and rolled my eyes.

"Shut up, I just want this to be believable. So we need to act like a real couple." I raised my eyebrows at him, I was completely serious about this.

"No problemo, *babe*" Danny winked, making my cheeks flush a bit. This was going to be one hell of an experience.

Today was the day. I was going to this party, and for once in my life, I was excited to see the look on my family's face when I came in with a man. I wore a black flowy skirt with a light pink long sleeved turtleneck and matching flats. I finished putting my hair in a high ponytail as the doorbell to my house rang. I adjusted my earring as I opened the door for Danny. He looked up from fiddling with his hands for a moment and looked me over with his mouth slightly parted.

"You look... great. Hey look," he gestured at his ensemble, "we accidentally matched." He wore a baby pink button down with nice looking black pants and black dress shoes. I was a little baffled, it wasn't planned at all.

"Well, it feeds more into the couple look, so I dig it." I grabbed my wallet and phone. "You ready to go?" I asked with a genuine smile. He looked like he was in a trance and he pulled away from my eyes.
