Derecka help. My core was screaming. From 8 foot distance itself, I started whimpering.
‘Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. And now I say yes, they do’
‘solace your electrified stamina and tell me whose life we have to imperil.'Yeah, that's Derecka Payne. My best friend. She can be an actual pain (Payne) for someone who stirs up my life.
She's wearing a fitted leather kilt and lose white shirt paired with wedge desert boots.
The fierce bold girl you don't wanna mess up with. Unstyled yet blonde hair making her sexy, with green transparent eyes enough to control your nerves. Every guy needs to have a girlfriend like Derecka who can control him from going off the deck and keeping his eyes on only one girl and that's why I sometimes pity for Jonathan Berth, her man.‘Zach, he ruined my winter formal. Firstly he's still loading me with his sarcasm and instead of solving things of the past, he's making things more difficult for me'
‘Its okay Alisa, you tried reaching him several times but he is the one who doesn't want to talk about that night so you should give yourself a break now and No one can contaminate your formal, I got the most promising dress for you to steal all their eyes.'
‘It's not about the dress. It's about my date.'
‘We'll find you a hunky date like Jacob Black.'
‘Well, then Aaron isn't even near Jacob.'
‘Aaron Butley? Are you going with him?’
‘No, I'm unwillingly being sent with him.'
‘Damn who? And no one can force you to go with him.’
‘It is out of an obligation I am going.'
‘Who's obligation?’
‘Well there is this new guy Arthur and I like him.....’
‘Then you should go with him.’
‘He wants me to go with Aaron, his best friend.'This problem isn't even mine but I'm getting dragged into it and I can't say no, because I'm a nice person who can practically end up getting hurt to protect people's inconsiderate feelings.
‘Good day folks!’, That tone always makes me nauseatic, how can someone have a good day when everything is awful, it's like asking a person if he enjoys his Cheetos with cream cheese when it's eww.
It's Rachel Rae, moving down the corridor toward us with long, fluid gaits. Dressed casually in a knee-length, cream-coloured Irish sweater over black leggings. She's the sweet girl who will give you candy if you forget your lunch. The godly child who will always recite you verses from Bible. Will keep you inside when the party is outside. She completes our golden trio.Last New year she kept lemon soda as drinks instead of mimosas and no one came except Derecka and I because this is our little family but she doesn't know that we already had our shots when she went to sleep at 10, did not even wait for new year countdown but come on every group needs a mom who keeps you on track without actually grounding you.
‘Both of you always look bleak and sour. Is that your customary cover or ya'll are on dopes.'
Yea that's her way of saying that we got no life except sobbing over guys and planning parties. Life is a dance floor to trip over and over, break your heels girl but no Rachel is always in her sneakers.I scream, ‘Good news Rach! I'm going to the formals with Aaron Butley.'
‘Wow so now you date nerds to flood your brains with knowledge.’
She's too sarcastic to talk to. This is what happens when you read too much of Leo Tolstoy. My eyes got impeccably illuminated when I heard a familiar thumping on the floor, it's Arthur coming towards us making a subtle smile from far making it difficult to interpret his credible motives. I knock Derecka with my elbow to pull her attention from the skirmish she was having with Rachel. I immediately clear my throat like a professional speaker on stage and hum Derecka that it's the football jock I was talking about but oh trouble, Rachel hates jocks and she doesn't know about my morning anecdote. I prepare myself to face the stigma as he stands scarcely inches away.
‘Hey, Alisa thanks for that favour of going with my best friend.'
I could see the annoyance in Derecka's eyes as she gave a deep sigh.‘No, it's not an issue.’ It was actually a big issue now.
As expected Rachel couldn't keep her tongue-tied and had to speak,
‘Who are you? And you seem like some new jock with whom we are not prying to interact.'
That was too mom of her to say.
‘I'm Alisa's friend and I'm a FOOTBALL jock to be specific.’
Rachel looked at me as if I backstabbed her but she's hard to explain so I chose to look away.Drecka likes fooling around especially around guys so she started toying with Arthur even after knowing that I get butterflies around him. That's her way of mocking me. Someone tell Jonathan Berth what's his girl doing.
I had to stop further chagrin so I stamped her wedges.Go go go, Arthur, my friend's crazy. Rachel did her quench crack by putting stress on the conversation like the one produced during the transition from Austenite to Martensite, this created internal stress which placed the surface into tension which was shutting down Derecka from creating further damage. At last, she used her sarcasm right and now she deserves that tour to Mount Zion in Jerusalem.
Finally, Arthur departed realising how apprehensive talking to Derecka can be.
‘Jonathan needs to master you instead of allowing you to do’, I rolled my eyes as I told her how badass she is.My problem was now narrated to Rachel though it wouldn't make any difference since I know her only alibi, Alisa this little piece of morsel isn't your entire feast, duh, so philosophically vague. It's like interlocked seat belts that require the driver’s seat belt to be locked into place before the car would start. No seat belt, no car starting. It's useless but we still do. Similarly, Rachel wouldn't be of much aid except her mourning mentoring but still let her get a sip of my anecdote.
The next thing we knew was going to ANTHOM for getting our outfits.I had to bunk my last 2 lectures since from University to ANTHOM it takes 2 hours 16 minutes, walking to be precise, so there was no way I was exhausting my heart by walking so we took the subway from 116th Street. We got into the train, the smell was dingy and mixed odour of people that rushed into my nostrils, I remember the last time I encountered such a smell was in my Hudson farmhouse when we burnt the Steak on the grill.
We got down at Grand Street, grabbed ourselves Flat whites.Well I'll be buggered to inform you whom we saw through the giant glass shields of the store. I feel my missing 2 lectures wasn't worth it. Hark at it, of all the places she chose to come to ANTHOM. I can't shop when she's around......
