Jabari kept his eyes on her every move. Afraid to say anything or even breathe as he watched her pace up and down the bedroom with the results in her hand. She repeatedly read the results then turned them over as if she was looking for something that would say that this was a prank. She stopped pacing up and down and just starred at him with her mouth agape like she had difficulty breathing.' When did you get these?'
' Two days ago.'
' Two days ago?! Two days ago?!'
She repeated his reply as if trying to clarify it with him. The paper hit his face when she threw it at him and headed out of their bedroom. He caught up with her in the kitchen but did not say anything. Just stood there watching her clean. Afraid to say anything since her reaction was out of the ordinary. This was not the way his wife handled bad news.
' Ba-'
' No! Don't say anything right now cause I'm still trying to process what you just told me calmly.'
Jabari looked at her as she took dishes out of the dish washer with so much anger.
' You promised me. No infact reassured me that this child was not yours. You were so sincere when you said you used protection. Why do you lie to me!? I told you that all I wanted was the truth and please come clean if this child is yours but no you continued to lie.'
' Nathi I never lied to you. I used brand new condoms. If I said the condom burst then that would be lying but I am being honest with you. I used protection with her.'
' You know I asked you when you proposed if you were sure you were over her and you said yes. You said you loved me and wanted to be with only me but this past year, that has shown me that it was not the case. You're so much still in love with her. I was just around who happened to be there when she left younger somebody else.'
Jabari used to date Lala and Anathi discovered this later in their relationship when she introduced her cousin to her boyfriend. At that time they were already broken up and she was seeing the guy he left him for. Anathi found out then that the girl he was crying over that day at the bus stop was her cousin. This made her self conscious and wondered if she was even good enough being that she and Lala were polar opposites. Everybody she knew preferred Lala over her. Lala always got the compliments and they boys while she got the cat calls and if only you were lighter insults.
' Lala was never and is still not the woman I love. Yeah I might have slept with her but it was out of greed and selfishness.'
' That means nothing right now. You gave her something that no other woman should get from you but me. A child and I don't think I can forgive you now-'
' Anathi that baby is not mine.'
' Jabari are you that in denial that you cannot see what is written in black and white?! You even said it yourself last night.'
' They made a mistake!'
