With bags under her eyes and a heavy head, Anathi walked into her mother's house to pick up her children. The side effects of her night with her sister were as fresh as if they happened yesterday but it had been two days. This was why she hated drinking let alone smoking but she needed to numb herself. Her mother shook her head when she opened the door to her.' You were with your sister weren't you!'
' Mama you're too loud.'
' So you brought your kids over so you can get drunk with your sister. I don't get how you young mother's operate these days.'
' You know you act like I do this every night. I just went over to spend time with my sister after finding out my husband has a child out of wedlock. So excuse me if that is not socially acceptable.'
' I'm sorry baby.'
Her mother's anger simmered down when she burst into tears. For a second she had forgotten what her elder daughter was going through.
' Have you talked to him about it or even decided on what your next step is now?
' No mma. He just keeps denying that he impregnated her but cannot explain how she got pregnant. He swears he used a brand new condom and it did not break.'
' Do you believe him?'
' I do not know what to believe mma. All I know is that Lala's son is his. He wants a new test but I know that it won't make any difference. This company is fortknox secure.'
Her mother pulled her in for a hug as more tears fell out her eyes. She hated crying at the drop of a hat but she was hurt and felt more betrayed than when he told her he had slept with her cousin.
' Why the sombre mood in here?'
Her father asked walking into the living room where the women sat talking. Her daughter excitedly held out her tiny arms when she noticed her. Anathi took her from her father and kissed her all over her face as some tear drops fell on her. She wiped them off. She smiled reminding her of her no good husband.
' Just having a little heart to heart with my daughter.'
' Ah that should be Jabari's father my love. Remember we have a golf game to go to in an hour. Is everything ready?'
Her father asked when someone rang the doorbell. Her mother replied yes as she walked to open the door and he got his clubs.
' I'm taking the boys with me. Jabari's is meeting us at the golf estate.'
' Okay dad. Enjoy your game.'
Her father in-law came over to greet them and kissed her forehead before asking her how she was doing.
' He told you?'
' No his brother did.'
They both kept quiet as soon as her father walked back in. Due to still being undecided on what to do, she felt it best to keep him out of it till she made up her mind.
' Well enjoy your day and don't work my babies too hard.'
' We'll try not to.'
Anele heard a voice that made her more angrier as they left. She stood up to be face to face with the smug look on her cousin's face.
' Really mma!'
