It's been a month since the Sky Deck incident happened and I can't help but to listen to Vanilla Twilight every time I watch the sunset at the grandstand. It's been stucked in my head ever since he told me that he remembers me whenever he plays that song. I know, I'm foolish.
But today is different. It is our Valentine's Day Fair and I'm preparing myself for a big heartbreak. We planned this together with Kat and Maddie. He asked the officers to detain him and Julia in the Jail Booth, and no one should bail them out so they would proceed to the marriage booth. Also, instead of a fake ring, he will give her an infinity ring during the ceremonies. How sweet is that, right? Now that's what I call a recipe for my heartbreak.
Something happened during the past month though. Julia's ex-boyfriend came back and is courting her again. He already knew that and we just hoped that he won't interfere with his plans. After all, his happiness is the most important thing for me.
It's 2 pm on my watch. I am wearing a red shirt under a black blazer. A statement without saying anything. I am now walking in our quadrangle and I saw that everyone's excited for this day. Everyone is wearing red and some of the boys are holding some flowers to give to their special someone. Some girls are chitchatting and eyeing their crushes
I saw Maddie seating in the stairway so I approached her
"Mads! Why are you here?"
"I am waiting for Thirdy. He will give me the flowers for Julia's march later…"
I just nodded and sat beside her. I was not assigned to any of the booths so I am free to roam around if I want to
From afar, I can see Thirdy, running with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. He was panting when he reached our location
"Hi Bei! Hi Mads! Sorry I'm kinda late..."
"You're just in time, kiddo. Just sit in some random spot. I already instructed the officers and they agreed. I also told them to raise the bail to three thousand so it's kind of unattainable. We'll just wait until Julia is alone so we can arrest her easily…" Maddie explained
"Thank you so much, Maddie! I really appreciate the help. I'll go ahead now…"
He ran towards a vacant seat in the bleachers and wiped his sweaty face. I was staring at him for too long but I'm glad that he's not looking back. Maddie tapped my back, so I was obliged to look at her
"Hey Bea tell me the truth…"
My throat suddenly went dry. I am in trouble
"What truth?" good thing I managed to speak. She held my shoulders and panned me in her direction. She's looking at me straight in the eyes now
"I'm your best friend, Bei. I know when something's going on. I just can't decipher it before but now, I can see why you're acting a bit odd lately…"
With those eyes, I can't help but to sigh and a drop of tear escaped my eyes but I quickly brushed it off
"I know it's wrong, Mads. He's in love with one of our best friends, and I respect that. I don't have any intentions of ruining that for them. Maybe I just have to feel all the emotions and let my tears drown the pain that I am feeling. Besides, I am finding a way to move on and focus on other things that matters..."
I let out a timid smile and she hugged me
"Oh Bea, if only I knew this earlier. I wouldn't have agreed to this setup. I'm sorry…"
I let go of the hug and held her hands.
"You don't have to apologize, Mads. It's okay. I already accepted my fate. I just want him to be happy, and I know that I can't give him the same happiness that he's feeling whenever he's with Julia. You did the right thing, we did the right thing..."
She smiled and hugged me one more time. I may not have the perfect love story, but at least I have friends I can count on.
I heard the students yelling so I looked at the quadrangle and I saw that Thirdy and Julia got arrested already. They're kind of popular in our school so I expected that already
"How long do they have to stay there?" I asked curiously because it was not mentioned in the meeting
"30 minutes. Not unless someone bailed them out…"
I looked at my watch and it's 2:15 pm already. It's kind of gloomy today. I hope it doesn't rain.
I return my gaze at the jail booth. There they are, but they are not talking. Julia seems to be a bit distant. I wonder why...
To get my mind off the situation, I decided to monitor the booths while the clock is ticking. The officers are very attentive to their tasks so I have no issues encountered so far.
As I was about to approach the jail booth, a familiar person caught my eye. It's Charlie, Julia's ex-boyfriend, and he's talking to one of the officers.
"How much more will Julia have to stay inside?" he asked
"15 more minutes, sir. She will head straight to the marriage booth if no one bailed her out…" the officer explained
"How much is the bail?"
"Three thousand, sir…"
He pulled out his wallet and opened it. I looked at Thirdy and he looks so disappointed now. Ugh this is bad
"Here. Three thousand. Can you let her out now?"
My jaw literally just dropped. He will seriously do it. The officers looked a bit skeptical at first but they opened the jail's lock. I saw Kat and Maddie in the other side of the jail. Kat looks so pissed while Maddie looks worried
Charlie handed a bouquet of tulips and chocolates to Julia. I heard a lot of ooohs from the students that are witnessing this moment right now. I feel bad for Thirdy
I gasped when Charlie knelt to the ground and held Julia's hand
"I know that I'm not a perfect guy Julia, but please give me another chance to prove myself to you. Please be my girlfriend…"
The students were screaming so loud but all I can think of is Thirdy. He's still inside, witnessing this moment right in front of him. I can see the sadness in his eyes and I can't help but to feel a little sting in my heart.
"Yes I will…" Julia said. Charlie immediately hugged her and the quadrangle is filled with applauses.
Julia looked at me and smiled timidly. Charlie grabbed her hand and walked towards the freedom park. I saw her looking back at Thirdy, mouthing 'sorry' before they're out of sight
I looked at Thirdy and he's talking to one of the officers
"Please let me out. I need some time away from here…"
"But sir…"
"Let him out.." I interrupted. The officer nodded and opened the door for him
"Thanks Bei…"
He's about to walk away but he turned back
"Can you come with me?" he asked. I looked at Maddie for an advice and she just nodded
"Okay…"
He grabbed my hand and we headed straight to the parking lot. He immediately hopped on his car and I did too. He started his engine and promptly made his way out of our campus
I closed my eyes, silently praying that nothing bad will happen…
