After hours of running and walking I became very exhausted. I wasn't just tired but confused as well, not just because I didn't know where I was, but I was trying to get some answers of what happened a few hours ago.
Answers!
I remembered what Vincent told me and I stopped. I sat in the grass and pulled out the book of the backpack. The cover was old and dusty so I cleaned it a bit with my hand. I was nervous... Was I really going to get answers? Or was it just an ordinary book? I opened it hesitating and the first few pages were blank. Strange... I shrugged it off and turned to pages to find the first chapter. Almost the whole thing was about how beautiful and great our world, Hael is, but something else appeared to be interesting...
'The Sacred gives birth to the Saviour and peace will rule over the world. However, the Sacred must sacrifice her life to mark the Saviour with her holy blood, giving them her blessing and power. After that, the Saviour will be raised by the Caretaker and they will train together, tailoring the Saviour's abilities. When time comes, the Saviour will have to defeat the Most Evil in order to protect Hael. And for that, may Daena be their guide.' Vino's I. Prophecy
I stared at the book shocked. Saviour? Could I be that Saviour?! Impossible! I was nothing but an ordinary girl. At least that's what I thought, but I started putting the picture togehter. Vincent really did have a reason for my training, duties and such. But who was the Most Evil? I needed more information so I kept reading but things like that weren't written. The book contained a lot of other useful things however...
Sitting in the grass made me sleepy, and of course that I was really tired. I thought I should look for a safer place to sleep but I was on a field! There were no trees, caves or hills. Just... Grass. And a dusty road that led Gods-know-where. I had no stamina to get up, after all... Placing my backpack under my head to use it as a pillow, I fell asleep in a few seconds.
I woke up by hearing someone talking. It was a bit distant and I was lucky with that. There were soldiers meters away from me. Soldiers, the ones I saw in Caraca, my village. While rising to my feet, I flipped my bag onto my back and sweeped my hair out of my face. It was my chance. Run away or fight them. There were only two of them but others could be nearby. However, an awful feeling got me. Revenge. Without thinking I pulled out my sword and charged at them. I was surprised how easily I took them down. Not just physically but... I killed them. And I felt nothing bad about it... They were at fault because everything. Vincent, Evan, and everyone. Some more of these people came, attacking me. Once again, I finished them off.
There was a different one, though. We started fighting and he was way stronger than the others. He was fighting with a huge two-handed blade which made it hard to block his attacks. I had no choise but dodging. It wasn't that easy either... Once I slipped and fell on my butt. I knew he was going to strike, so I lifted up my sword to block. I couldn't help closing my eyes, which was foolish but I thought that might be the end...
The strike never came however, and I heard a CLANG. I slowly looked up to see a figure with a shield, blocking the attack. In a flash he killed the soldier too with the sword he was holding in his other hand. I stared at the scene, shocked. If this someone wasn't there, right at that moment, I would be dead for sure.
The mentioned person turned to me and helped me to be on my feet again.
"Thank you... If it wasn't for you, I'd be gone." I said and held my arm embarrassed. The guy just smiled at me and I was able to see his face now. He had messy dark brown hair and piercing emerald green eyes.
"No need to thank me. It's the least I could do for the Protector." He said while putting away his weapon. His voice was soft but deep, and there was something calming about it.
"What...?" I asked back. Protector? Does he mean the Saviour? How does he know I'm the one? Even I wasn't sure.
"You know, the one who's destined to save the world? You might have heard it as 'Saviour', though." He explained, still standing in front of me.
"Oh... How do you know I'm the Saviour?" I asked becoming curious.
"I'm the Guardian. I know a thing or two about the Prophecies and I was trained to find you for my whole life." He spoke, his smile never fading. He seemed trustworthy, not to mention he just saved my life. "Besides, I don't see anyone else fighting the Dark Soldiers by will." He added.
"Guardian?" I focused on the first part of his speech. Sighing, the Guardian nodded.
"Yes. Haven't you been told about the Prophecies?" After shaking my head he went on. "Then I'll tell you about that later. We have to continue the journey together, so I'm sorry if I'm not welcomed but you have no other choise."
It wasn't like I didn't want him to come along. I nodded and put away my sword that was lying on the ground the whole time.
"All right. And do you have a name, Guardian?" I asked with a smile. He bowed in front of me, his hand on his chest.
"Logan Graywell, at your service." He rose back, now being taller than me again.
"I'm Skye." I introduced myself and he smiled at me.
"It's a pleasure to meet you at last." He paused for a moment and became serious. "Let me ask... Do you have the Codex?"
I nodded before answering. "Yes. I read the first chapter so far." I admitted and Logan seemed to be surprised.
"Wait... When did you recieve it?" He asked but he was calm again.
"A few hours ago..." I said and quickly got rid of the memories of what happened. "I don't really want to talk about it, if I don't have to."
Logan nodded in understand. He seemed to know what happened, or at least had some expectations.
"As you wish. Now, I suggest moving on if you're okay and ready." He said politely. I adjusted my bag and then nodded. "We can go to either Latheral or Ba'alzan. If you ask me, Ba'alzan seems like a better choise. The kingdom is ruled by King Athlon. He has a great army and he's very helpful along with Queen Iruna."
I didn't question Logan's thoughts. He was very well-prepared and he really seemed like he was trained for this his whole life.
"Then let's head there, shall we?" I asked smiling and Logan nodded, leading the way. I took his side and together, we started our journey.
