(Y/N)'s POV
Here we go again. Step after step on the way home. Alone as always. I looked down at my feet. Walking was happening so automatically, like I was on autopilot. I was lost in thoughts but looked up for a brief second. That's when I spotted a familiar figure. A tall person, quite thin, with a head of dark hair parted in the middle. Kunimi!
I walked up to him with a smile on my face. "Hey, Kunimi. How was the food?" I asked happily. He turned to me in surprise, probably not having noticed me coming up to him.
"Oh, hey." He regained his composure. "Despite being a little burned, it was good. Thanks for the food."
"Really? You liked it? I just wasn't really sure if you'd like what I picked." I admitted.
"Yeah, I liked it. Your choice in food was good too." He reassured me in his usual tired voice.
"That's a relief. Did you eat up?"
"Yeah. Wait, I'll give you your bento box back." He said while reaching into his bag. He handed the box to me and I put it into my bag.
"So, do you always walk home alone?" He asked, keeping the conversation going.
"Yeah, all my friends live in different directions. I used to walk home with my best friend in middle school, but she attends another high school now." I sighed sadly. I really missed her sometimes. "What about you? Do you walk alone too?"
"Well, I usually have volleyball practice after school, so I normally go home really late with my teammates, but practice was cancelled today, because the coach is sick."
"Oh, you play volleyball?" So that's why he's so muscular! "Is that how you know Kindaichi?"
"Kinda. Though we already played together in middle school, so I've known him for quite a while now."
"You already played in middle school? What was your team like? Were they as good as the team of our school now? I always hear the other girls ranting about the team captain."
"You mean Oikawa? Yeah, he's a good player and captain, but so childish at times and the horde of his fangirls is quite annoying." Kunimi sighed in frustration. "He was on my middle school team as well. I went to Kitagawa Daiichi. Our team was really good, except for that one setter."
Wow! Kunimi can be quite talkative if it's about volleyball, huh? Let's keep that up for a bit.
"What about him? Did he play bad?"
"No, don't get me wrong. He was a good player by himself, but that's the problem. In volleyball you don't play by yourself. He never cared if his tosses were too difficult to spike. He just always yelled at us for not playing the way he wanted."
"Oh, so he was egotistical. He sounds as if he acted like he owned the court..."
"Yes, he did. That owned him the name 'king of the court'."
"Wow. If I wouldn't know the background, I would have thought that sounded pretty cool. But it sure seems like you don't like that guy at all. What did you do about him?" I asked again.
"Well, we convinced our coach to make him sit on the bench." He shrugged. "He was really pissed, but we could finally play normally again."
"By the way, I didn't expect you to be this talkative, Kunimi." I smiled as the boy looked away and stayed quiet for a moment.
"Oh, look! There is my house already." I noticed. The time passed so fast as we were walking.
"Oh, yeah..."
"It was really nice talking to you, but I need to go now. See you tomorrow!" I smiled at him calmly and waved him goodbye.
"Bye." He said quietly while waving back.

Kunimi's POV
Here we go with another day of school. I really wish I could've just stayed in bed... The conversation with (L/N) yesterday was still on my mind. I hadn't even notice I started rambling, until she mentioned it. Why did that even bother me so much...?
"Good morning, Kunimi." I suddenly heard from behind me. I know that voice. Feminine and yet calm as always. If you speak of the devil.
"Oh, good morning, (L/N)." I greeted back.
"Do you wanna go to school together?" She smiled at me.
"I guess we're already walking together. How do you always appear out of nowhere?" I asked her.
Her (E/C) eyes widened as she lost her composure for a bit and started rambling in a panicked tone. "Oh, am I being too pushy? It's okay if you don't want to go to school together. I just figured it would be okay, because I thought we could be friends. Sorry."
Friends? She thinks we can be friends? Do I want to be friends with her or is she going to be annoying? No, she's not all too annoying. I guess I don't mind being friends...
"Don't worry. I don't mind going to school together. We can be friends." I reassured her.
"Really?" She smiled at me. "Thanks. Do you want to go home together today too then?"
"I don't think I can. Oikawa texted me that the coach is back today again, so I have practice after school. Even though it's not unusual for me to ditch, I think ditching the first day the coach is back isn't a good idea."
"Oh, that's okay. I wouldn't have asked you to ditch anyways. Volleyball seems to mean a lot to you. Don't worry, I can just go home on my own." She gave me a reassuring smile, but for some reason it made me feel bad. I think I felt guilty.
"Um- we can go to school together tomorrow again though, if you want, (L/N)." I tried to ease my mind and get rid of that guilty feeling. Why does this girl have this effect on me? Why does she make me want to see her happy?
"I'd love to!" she grinned happily. "By the way, you can call me (Y/N). No need to be so formal."
"Alright." I looked at her with my usual expression. To her disliking though, it seems.
"Jeez, do you ever smile? Be happy!" She puffed sulky, standing in front of me to block my way, tip-toeing to place her index fingers at the corners of my mouth and forcing my lips to curve up. I narrowed my eyes at her. Maybe I underestimated how annoying she can be.
When she saw my reaction, she backed off and apologized in a high-pitched tone while chuckling to herself. I sighed. What did I get myself into?
