Kunimi's POV

Winter was coming, and it started to get dark earlier. (Y/N) and I walked to school together every day now, it became a habit. Over the weeks, I got used to her and even started to care about her, even though I didn't tell her that. Despite the fact she was annoying at times, she was always a calm and reasonable person, though she was sometimes quite childish. But I can't be mad at her for being a happy person, can I?

During lunch break, I'd just hang out with my friends and she'd hang out with hers. That just stayed the way it was.

Though we'd also go home together whenever I ditched practice. Aside from scolding me for not practicing, she'd be happy about the company. She always said, if she joined a club too, we could go home together at the same time. I had to remind her every time that no other club stays at school as long as the volleyball club, because Oikawa always insists on extra practicing.

Today we were going to school like every morning. "I can't wait for school to end today!" She told me excitedly.

"Is there anything special coming up?" I asked her.

"I'm going to visit my friend from middle school today!"

"That's nice. You always keep saying how much you miss her." I said in my usual tired tone. I was really happy for (Y/N) though.

(Y/N)'s POV

I stepped out of the front door of my friend's house. I was wearing my coat over my school uniform, because it started getting chilly outside these days. The cold air hit my face softly as I could even see my breath already. Suiting the winter season, it was also already dark, and the night was illuminated by street lights.

I turned to my friend, who was still standing in the frame of the door. "It was really nice catching up with you. We should really do that more often." I smiled at her.

She stroked a strand of her short blond hair that was hanging in her face behind her ear. "I'd love that, but as I already said, I'll probably join a club soon, so we'll have to see when we have the time."

"Yeah, you're right. But I'm sure we can figure something out." I reassured her.

She took a glance outside before sighing. "You should have asked your friend you're always walking with if he could pick you up. It's going to be dangerous to walk alone."

"Don't be ridiculous. I can't always ask Kunimi for help. I'm going to be fine." I told her, though I was a little cautious of walking alone myself.

"Just be careful, okay?"

"I will. Bye, Hito-chan!" I waved her goodbye.

"Bye, (Y/N)." She waved back, still looking a little concerned.

I was telling myself I was going to be okay, but I was still a little paranoid. Aside from the sound of my feet hitting the pavement, there was nothing to be heard. The streets were empty. I wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing.

No, I was going to be fine! But that's when I heard someone else's steps. There was someone behind me at a distance. It's okay (Y/N). Just someone passing by.

I'm going to be fine. I'm going to be fine. I'm going to be fine. I'm going to be fine. I'm going to be fine.

Even though I tried to brush it off, I couldn't help but get suspicious when they always stayed behind me, no matter which way I turned

Even though I tried to brush it off, I couldn't help but get suspicious when they always stayed behind me, no matter which way I turned. Please say this is just a nightmare!

My heart started beating faster as its sound rang through my body so loudly, it almost numbed out every other sound. A cold sweat ran down my forehead as my breathing became uneven.

What am I supposed to do in a situation like this? Should I call someone? But what if it's a false alarm? I don't want to look like an attention seeker.
But what if I'm really being followed? How could I defend myself? If I get out of this alive, I'm going to buy myself a life stock of pepper spray!  Maybe Hito-chan was right  and  I really should have asked Kunimi to walk me home...

I walked faster. The steps became faster. I got even faster. They got even faster. I started running. They started running. But they started running faster than me.  F̸̡̢̛͉̻͍̫͚̰͋̉̆̂͜ͅü̷̬͓͎̮͎͖̎̀̈́͋̔̊͘c̸̗̦̞̻̘͖͐͜k̶̛͎̰̓́̆͆͒-̶̙̤̟̜͇͇̻̄͑̽̕͜

Soon the person had caught up to me and grabbed me. My hand panickily fumbled in the pocked of my coat, looking for something to defend myself with. My keys! Where are my keys?!

"HEL-" I tried to scream, but the attacker put their hand over my mouth. Even worse is I couldn't find my keys! I must have put them in my school bag. I could only find my phone. That would have to do!

I took out my phone and opened the selfie camera. I snapped a picture of their face. I know this would intimidate them, because if I managed to get away, I had solid evidence on their identity. But only if I really managed to get away.

My move luckily startled the attacker for a moment and that was my opportunity to ram my elbow into their gut. I managed to get free from their grasp. "HELP!! HELP ME!" I called out again.

When the front door of a nearby house slammed open my heart skipped a beat. Someone came to help! The attacker knew it was too late. They punched me in the face before taking off running, as I fell to the ground.

Kunimi's POV

I was waiting in front of (Y/N)'s house like every morning. When she opened the door, I immediately knew something was up. Not only from the band aid on her cheek and the dark circles under her eyes, but also from her expression. She didn't smile at me like she usually does.

"Good morning." She greeted me. I could hear she tried to sound happy, but it was clear to me she wasn't. She walked past me, knowing I'd follow her.

I gave her a concerned glance. "Hey, what's wrong? What happened to your face?"

"It's nothing. Don't worry, I'm fine." She forced a smile onto her face. (Y/N)'s not a good liar.

I was about to ask her again what happened before she started talking again, even slowing down her pace of walking. "H-hey, can we go home together today please?" Her voice was shaking, so was her body as she started to tear up.

Ok, that's it. I stood in front of her, blocking her way as I grabbed her by the shoulders and crouched down a little to look her in the eyes, while mine reflected my concern.

"(Y/N), what happened?"

Tears started to roll down her cheeks. She cried into my shoulder as I pulled her into a hug. I knew she always needed a hug for comfort and it's not like we hadn't ever hugged before.

After she calmed down a little, she started explaining between sobs what happened. "I had to walk home alone in the dark yesterday after I visited my friend. Someone followed and attacked me, but I somehow got free. A resident reacted to my calls for help, so the attacker punched me and ran off. After that I spent half the night in the police station answering questions after a doctor looked me over. I just couldn't fall asleep when I was finally home though."

"My god! Why are you even going to school then? You should stay home and rest!"

"No, please. I just want to forget it happened and best way to do so is pretend it didn't. So, I'm going to school!" She stayed stubborn as always.

I shook my head in disapproval, but I knew I couldn't change her mind.
