I looked at the clock on the wall behind him. It's already past ten. I actually don't go to sleep until around twelve or one. I stay up late reading novels and listening to music.
He sat down and put his phone on the table. He picked up his glass and drank the remaining water. He didn't even notice I drank half of it.
"For the last past thirty minutes you've beeb asking me questions, and I didn't get to collect the answers I cane for."
"Answers? The answers to your questions are not lying around here, for your information."
"Are we arguing, Miss. Wonder?"
"Miss. Wonder--do you do that a lot? Go around calling out all the misses and misters that you know and don't know?"
"I'm a businessman, I got to do what I have to do."
Yeah right tell that to my stone when I'm dead. "Please just call me Lisa," I reminded him, even though he seemed to ignore me.
"I'm serious."
"So?"
"So what?" I asked.
"The answers. You know the questions. I'm sure you've been thinking of how to answer them back."
"Nope, never thought I should. What did you want to know about again?" I don't think he heard me.
I thought, My parents got killed in an accident when I was thirteen, and we stayed at our grandma's place. When I was eighteen, Grandma lent me the account Daddy wanted me to have on my eighteenth birthday. There was 2.1 million dollars in it. They didn't want to give it to my brother, because he was such an ass back then. Now he's slowly improving. He's even trying to stop drinking and start saving. They didn't believe him for a second, because the last time they gave him money he used it all on beersfor his friends and himself. But that was long ago, and he's doing everything he can to be the man of the house. He'll get there, is that all?  I am also half-rich because my brother owns that 3.2 million. I worked at McDonald's because it was the only place that I could work at while I'm still waiting to hear from Nicolas Barns, the owner of Cilia's Hair Salon, to work as a receptionist and it has been four weeks now since the interview. I also have a boyfriend. Is that enough Mr. Cute? Too many thoughts in my mind.
He said, "My mother is a detective. This would be the part I knew would freak you out somehow."
"Your mum is a--why the hell didn't you tell me that before you come up with the questi?"
"I didn't think you would want to know."
"Why wouldn't I want to know? Your family is moving in tomorrow, and you're telling me I wouldn't want to kmow this? You said you wanted to be familiar with my family, and so do I with yours."
"Miss. Man--Lisa. I--" He broke off when his phone vibrated--again! "Excuse me," he said, trying to stand up. I stood uo with him. "Please, this won't be long," he said sensitively.
I'm tired, but I love this conversation with you.
"Jungkook, other people have to work tomorrow. Maybe your folks can come by tomorrow during dinnertime. Let's say around seven?"
"For christmas?" His tone sounded excited. "Sure, why not?" He viewed his phone and still didn't answer it. It stopped ringing. He came around and took the manila folder that I left beside me on the couch.
He slipped on the mat and I quickly turned and was able to catch him around his waist. But I was too weak to hold him up, so we fell on the couch together. I fell on purpose. He was on top of me, and his hands were around my neck, trying to hold me up by holding on tight to the couch so my head wouldn't hit the floor. My hands were still around him.
He's on too of me! Oh my damn goodness, his body is already burning!
"Hi," he whispered.
OMG! His breath! I love the smell of his breath. Stop it, Lisa! Focus.
I pushed him up, and he fell on the chair. Almost hit the table in front of us. "I'm sorry," he said, pushing himself up again. "I didn't mean to..." He shook his head as if he was thinking we'd kissed.
I stood up straightening my back, and looked at him with revelation. I turned around to redo my lavalava and then twisted back. Our eyes met.
"I think we've had enough information for tonight, My Jeon. Thank you for stopping by." He took a step forward, but I moved back. "Okay, Jungkook let me show you the way out. Please follow me."
"Okay." He glowered. He clutched the manila folder and his bag as he followed. "Oh, and by the way, Lisa," he said, turning back again from outside the house as I rested against the side of the fron door.
You look undeniably handsome, Mr. Jeon, but not tonight anymore.
"What is it, Jungkook?"
"I knew you drank my water. I just wanted to taste it after you drink it. It was good."
"Merry Christmas, Jungkook."
"Merry Christmas to you and your family, Miss. Manoban. And blessed Sabbath."
I gave him a smile and slowly closed the door.
