"-ji! Joji!"
I jerk awake and sit up from where I had fallen asleep on my bed. I see Iris standing beside my bed, looking down at me with confusion.
"Joji what are you reading? It doesn't look like anything I've seen before." She asks.
I look down and realize that I fell asleep while reading the Draconian legend book. I gasp and quickly close the book and cover the book with my pillow.
"It's nothing, Iris! Just something we have to read for school." I quickly come up with the lie.
"Okay if you say so. I was just coming up to tell you that Mom wanted you downstairs." Iris replies, skeptically.
"What for?"
She shrugs. "She wouldn't tell me. Just asked me to get you."
"Okay. Thank you. Tell her I'll be down in a few minutes." Iris nods and walks out of my room. I sigh and bring the book back out from under my pillow. I get up from my bed and replace the book in it's place in the wall. I need to be more careful when I read that... I think to myself. I finish grabbing all my things and head downstairs. Upon turning the corner into the living room, I see mom sitting on the couch, looking out the window.
"Iris said you needed me, Mom?" I ask.
She turns around and looks at me, smiling. "Yes," she says. "I just wanted to talk to you about our birthday. What do you want to do for it?"
I think about it for a second. "I'd be fine with just me, you and Iris going out and doing something together. It's been awhile since we did something as a family."
She thinks about it for a second. "Well how about we go bowling or something? We all enjoy that. And maybe we can invite a friend or two of yours from school."
I scratch the back of my neck. "Ok. Sounds like a plan." It would be better not to tell her I have no friends. I can make up an excuse for why no one comes.
She smiles. "Alright! It's a plan. Now go on and do your schoolwork so you have tomorrow free!"
I somberly smile back and make my way back up to my room. I close my door and flop back onto my bed.
Well tomorrow is the big day, Joji. You'll finally be sixteen.
I can't wait for tomorrow, but I'm also a bit nervous. We'll see how it goes.
~~I think that went rather well for a second chapter. I promise it's going to get more exciting in the next few chapters. Thanks for reading! Seya in chapter 3!~~
