KEATON'S POV

We are so caught up in conversation, I lost track of time. When I check my watch, it's 7:03.

"Crap!" I rush upstairs and fix myself as fast as possible. It takes 10 minutes to skate to the park,
I'll be 15 minutes late. I send Blue a text, but she doesn't reply. I shove my phone back in my pocket, and race out the door, pushing past Wes' wave of questions.

When I get to the park, it's completely empty, other than a 10 year old boy shooting hoops at the basketball court. I check my phone, and notice I have a reply from Blue.

"Yeah no problem, I'm held up at work I'll be there at 7:30"

I check the time, it's 7:22. I decide to skate around a bit before she comes.

She doesn't. Blue never arrived at the park. I skated until 8, then sat on the bench to wait for her until 8:30. I check my phone constantly for an update from her, but it doesn't arrive. I give up, and head home. When I walk through the door, I must have had a sad look on my face because Wes looked concerned.

"Keats, what happened? I've never seen you so down." He places a hand on my shoulder, and I look behind him to make sure everyone is gone before saying anything. Surely enough, the 4 boys are still sitting in the kitchen, lost in conversation. I shake my head and mutter, brushing his hand off my shoulder and sulking my way up the stairs.

I open the door to my room, and throw my board on my bed. I throw my shoes off and walk into my bathroom. As I'm splashing water onto my face, there's a knock on my door. When I don't answer, Wes walks in.

"I sent everyone home, so are you gonna tell me what's up?" I sigh and throw myself onto my bed.

"I met a girl at the skate shop, and she blew me off at the skate park." I thought he was going to laugh, but he doesn't. Instead he has a thoughtful look on his face, followed by a question.

"Wait, is it Blue? From Steven's?" He has a shocked look on his face.

"You know her?"

"Yeah, she's Bubba's cousin. She's like, the chillest girl ever. She didn't blow you off, something definitely had to have come up. Call her, she'll reschedule. Guaranteed." He pauses and smiles to himself. "Look at you go, scoring the hottest girl in town. Don't let her go, she's a catch." He laughs to himself and finally exits my room. I smile to myself, wondering what I did to deserve such a great brother.

I pick up my phone and click Blue's contact. My bring the phone to my ear, and she picks up on the 3rd ring. I don't even have a chance to say hi before she begins apologizing.

Wes was right about her.

"Hey!! I'm so sorry I didn't make it! I had to rush home, my brother fell and I had to take him to the hospital. I left my phone at the store so I couldn't text you!" I feel bad for assuming the worst of her.

"No problem, I understand. I hope he's ok."

"Yeah he's fine, just a sprained ankle." She laughs. It's a beautiful sound.

"Why didn't your mom or dad take him?" I had to ask. I immediately regret it.

"Uh, yeah. My dad died when I was 10. My mom became an alcoholic after he died, and I haven't seen her in 2 years. It's just me and my brother now." I hear the sadness in her voice as it catches.

"Oh I'm sorry...I didn't know. Do you wanna talk about it?" She doesn't answer for a moment and I worry that I said something wrong. "Hello?" A sniffle comes from the other end.

"Yeah, sorry. Yeah actually, I would like to talk about it. I haven't spoken to anyone about it since my mom left, so it'd be nice. Late night skate?" I nod, then realize she can't see me.

"Yeah, sounds good. Meet at the skate shop?" She agrees, and we decide on both leaving as soon as we hang up.

"See you in 20." I hear the smile in her voice as we hangup, and I grab my board and sneak out my window.

On my way to the skate shop I pass a variety store, and decide to stop and grab some snacks. I don't know what she likes, so I just grab some plain milk chocolate bars and 2 cans of Arizona iced tea. I hand the cashier the money, and he tries to make small talk but it just becomes awkward.

"Why are you out so late? What is it, midnight?" I nod.

"Just about. I'm going to meet a friend." He smiles and tells me to be safe, so I thank him and head back on my way to the skate shop.

BLUE'S POV

As I sit waiting for him, I wonder just how much I should tell this stranger. I mean, I don't even know his name. He's cute and all, but maybe we should get to know each other a bit before spilling the dirty details of our childhood to each other. The only thing I know about him is that he had cancer, and that's pretty big considering I don't know what to call him.

"Hey!" I jump when I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn around to find him standing behind me, a big smile plastered on his face. I return the gesture, and stand up to face him. I decide against hugging him, I don't want to make things awkward.

"How are you?" I ask him.

"Pretty good! How are you?" He asks me as he takes a seat on the curb in front of the shop.

"I'd be better if I actually knew your name!" I laugh, and he does too. His laugh is so beautiful and happy. I wish I could listen to it all the time.

What am I thinking? I met this kid today, and I'm already wishing I could listen to him laugh 24/7. But it's just something about him that draws me to him.

"Keaton, my name is Keaton." Keaton.... I really like that name. It suits him well, too. It's adorable and cute, just like him. "So is your real name Blue, or is it just a nickname?" I scoff at the origin of my ridiculous name.

"It's my real name, sadly. My parents were really into the whole living natural, peace signs, Volkswagen vans, hippie thing when I was born. They thought Blue would represent that." I sigh, wishing they had named me something more mainstream like Samantha or Alex.

"I like it." He smiles. "It's pretty and unique, I like knowing a girl with such a unique name." I return his smile and sigh. I wish I had met him earlier. I'm going away for university next year and I have a feeling we're going to get pretty close.

"I like your name too. It's suits you perfectly. It's cute and adorable just like you." My eyes widen and I cover my mouth with my hands. "Did I just say that, oh my god." I look down at my feet as the red creeps across not only my cheeks, but his too. He laughs nervously.

"Thank you." He smiles, and it eases the tension that had just built up due to my big mouth. I decide to change the subject.

"So tell me about yourself. I don't know anything about you. I didn't even know your name until like 10 minutes ago." He sits on his penny board and pushes himself back and forth.

"Well what do you want to know?"

"Everything."
