Corbyn's P.o.V

I was sure that Jonah and I would be able to talk about yesterday's incident in our first class this morning. Nobody ever pays attention to Miss Jackson anyway.

Of course the universe proved me wrong once again when Jonah went to sit down with the brunette guy from earlier instead of sitting next to me in our regular seats.

I wasn't mad. He was allowed to have other friends. I was just disappointed because he could have asked me to sit with them.
He could have introduced us.
He could have told me he would sit with someone else for the day.

Everything would have been better than being abandoned by your best friend.
I would have understood. But he didn't bother.
He didn't even glance at me for a second.

He didn't care.

Had our friendship not meant anything to him?

It sure looked like it.

I was trapped in my own thoughts and didn't notice what was happening around me. I was pulled back to reality when Miss Jackson called out my name.

"Why don't you show Daniel around for the next few days?"

"I'm sorry, who's Daniel?", I asked confused.

"Seems like you weren't paying attention, Mr Besson."

The class broke out in sniggering.

"What a mood", I heard Sabrina say.

"You're right, sorry I wasn't paying attention. Could you please repeat it?"

"Sure, but only because you asked nicely", she smiled, "we have a new student, Daniel", she said gesturing towards the boy who was standing next to her.

It was now that I noticed him. He had dark brown hair and deep blue eyes, which made him seem like a nice guy. He smiled and waved at me.

"And you want ME to show him around?", I questioned my english teacher.

"Yes, you're a good student and will certainly have a good influence on him. Plus, there's an empty seat next to you so you can get to know each other, too", she answered.

"Uhh, yeah sure."

"Perfect, go ahead Daniel", she said, motioning him to sit beside me.

"Hey!", he greeted once he had approached me. I noticed his tooth gap as he grinned.

"Nice to meet you", I smiled shyly.

"Let me guess, you're one of those guys who don't talk to people they barely know", he looked at me knowingly.

"Y-yeah. How'd you know?"

"I'm really good at reading people and you look like someone who could need a friend."

"Woah, that was smooth", I chuckled, "considering you're new here I assume you're in need of a friend, as well?"

"Good guess", he told me, putting his notebook and pencil case on the desk in front of him.

The rest of the lesson passed quicker than I had expected. Daniel kept me entertained and even though I didn't say much I had a feeling that would change soon.
I had walked Daniel to all his classes and we even had art together.

At lunch time, I made my way to the cafeteria when all of a sudden someone pulled me aside. It was the rosy-cheeked guy who Jonah sat next to in english class.

"Give him space. He's having a hard time. He'll come around when he's ready...", he had an apologetic look on his face.

"What?", I questioned, "you're not making any sense", I added, now confused. “You also kind of came out of nowhere”, I stated.

"Right, okay. Let's start from the beginning...", he trailed off.

"I'm Corbyn", I began. Normally, I wouldn't start any kind of conversation with someone I've just met but if he's friends with Jonah, I trust him..
..which I probably shouldn't.

"And I'm Zach", he introduced himself, slightly smiling.

"What did you mean?"

"I know you and Jonah are best friends but you need to give him some space. He's going through a rough time and needs to figure himself out, first."

"But-", I tried interrupting him.

"No. Just hear me out."

"Sorry, go on."

"Please don't think, he doesn't want to be friends with you anymore or anything like that. He really cares about you and your friendship. You're important to him, more than you know. Just give him some time. He'll come around", he patted my back and turned around to walk away.

I was too confused to stop him or say anything at all.
Snapping out of my trance, I proceeded to head towards the cafeteria.
My mind was all over the place.

I couldn't focus on my surroundings so it didn't come as a surprise when I accidentally bumped into someone.

"Sorry", I mumbled, walking on.

"Corbyn?", a way too familiar voice asked faintly.

Jonah.

I turned around quickly, only to see him walk away from me.

What the fuck?

I tried pushing my way through the crowd of students to go after him but he had already vanished into thin air.
