The water in the creek made a nice relaxing noise as Crookedjaw walked along the grass, the light drizzle in the sky hitting his head and sliding down his messy orange hair, soaking his face and green hoodie. He rubbed the bandaid on his nose, hoping it wouldn't slip off if the rain picked up. His brown boots squished against the ground, but he kept walking until he reached where he was heading: a cottage by the edge of thunder village. There were stairs that led to the balcony underneath the cobblestone roof, and lucky for the boy: they went right by the window. A grin spreading on his crooked mouth, Crookedjaw bent down by the creek, picking up a small stone. Eyeing it for a few seconds, he readied himself before chucking it lightly towards the window. It hit it with a thud before falling to the ground. Crooked waited a few seconds, sighing when there wasn't a response. He grabbed another stone and threw it again, smiling when the window opened after this one, and a familiar freckled blue haired girl with a blueish gray sweater appeared in the window, a stern look on her pale face.
"Crookedjaw, I told you I'm studying today! Mouse Brain!"
"I know I know. I thought you'd be done by now. You are, right..?"
His voice was filled with honest hopefulness as he gazed up at her with cheerful green eyes.
Bluefur sighed, fighting a smile and loosing in a matter of seconds. A smile looked good on her freckled face. Adorable even. "Yeah. I'm done. Climb the stairs."
"Your parent's and sister home?" Crooked asked, walking up the wooden stairs on the side of the house with one hand on the railing. Bluefur shook her head, placing her head on her arms which were crossed on the window ceil, rain sliding down her nose. "No but they'll be home soon. Which is why, I told you not to come over today." She shot a glare his way and crooked only chuckled. "Sorry, I couldn't resist! I missed you."
He eventually had made it to the window, propping his elbows on the window ceil and resting his head on his hands, his nose lightly touching bluefur's.
"Hi."
"Hi. Now get in here before you catch a cold you dork."
The blue haired girl pulled away with a light blush, smiling lightly as crookedjaw climbed threw the window. He landed on his bottom on her faded green carpet. Blue's room was always nice to be in. The walls were a peach pink, and so was the bed, the blanket with a peach and white checkered pattern while the bed frame was a cream. Her wooden desk sat against the front wall to the right of the window, her school work spread across from it with pencils and a lamp. There was a shelf with a bunch of books, some on the ground in front of it. She had a few posters but not much. If the room was any bigger it would be considered rather empty. But it was small enough to be considered cluttered. Blue sat criss cross from him, smiling lightly.
"So. What do you want to do?"
"Wanna prank call Talltail and yellowfang again?"
"Oh absolutely."
So the two sat on blue's bed, phone stretched from the wall in hand and overall being dorks. Yellow got pretty annoyed but Tall got a chuckle out of their tomfoolery. Afterwards blue grabbed a book off her shelf. It was one of their favorites, a series about some dragon children and a prophecy involving them. Crooked nuzzled his face into the crook of blue's neck, staring down at the book with her. Blue was a quick reader with how ahead in school she used to be, so all crooked had to do was tap the page when he was done reading and blue would flip it. After about an hour of the silence Crookedjaw spoke.
"Hey blue?"
"Mhm?"
"I love you." He murmured softly. Blue closed the book, (not before putting the bookmark back in of course) moving to stare at him. With a small smile, she leaned in and gave him a soft kiss. "I love you too." Crooked felt his face heat up, before laughing a bit to himself. Blue couldn't help but laugh too, as they reached for each other's hands, intertwining their fingers. Crookedjaw leaned back on her bed, bluefur moving to lay her head on his chest, listening to his heart beat. Crooked wrapped his arms around her, and in a matter of moments they had fallen asleep.
. . .
"BLUEFUR! WERE HOME!"
Crooked was a light sleeper, the yelling waking him up quickly.
"Crud"
He quickly wiggled his way out from underneath bluefur, glancing at her and smiling at her before moving to the window and opening it. The rain had stopped thankfully. The sun was setting, and the sky and clouds had a pink and orange hue to them, almost matching the peachy hue of blue's room. He leaped out the window and onto the stairs. He decided to not close the window. If blue woke up soon or if her parents going to check on her woke her up, then she'd get to see the beautiful sky. And he was sure she'd like that.
"Cya tomorrow blue." He whispered, quickly booking it down the stairs when he heard the sounds of footsteps outside the room's door.
The teenager walked peacefully along the path back to the old place he was forced to call home, tan colored hands in his pockets. His boots were pretty muddy now by the time he reached the place.
On the outskirts of the villages was a pretty big stone building, a large sign above the door that read
"Mapleshade's home for B̶r̶a̶t̶t̶y̶ Homeless kids"
Crooked frowned at the sign, biting the inside of his cheek as he knocked on the metal door. It almost immediately opened, and there at the door was a red headed lady with white streaks in her hair, an old brown dress, and a scarred up face. She gave a low growl at the sight of him and grabbed him by the arm.
"Do you have any idea of how much trouble you're in?! You've been gone, for four, hours! I did n o t agree to take you in for you to go wandering off for hours and not tell me."
Crooked rolled his eyes, ignoring the pain in his arms that was slowly increasing. He quickly jerked it away from her, narrowing his eyes. "It's not like you actually care. You just know that if I'm hurt your reputation goes down and you don't get money-"
Mapleshade yanked him inside, dragging him through the wooden hallways, past all the other locked rooms to his own. She shoved him inside.
"Your not allowed outside tomorrow. Tomorrow you're cleaning all the rooms, and they better be spotless." She hissed out before slamming the door. Crooked rolled his eyes, sighing and plopping himself on the bed. He reached under his old pillow, pulling out a sketch book and pencil. He glanced at his boarded up window, fumbling with the loose board until it moved again. He propped it up so he could get a good look at the sky. The view from his window was so nice. It was always a shame it was boarded up. Glancing at the distant sight of a tree on a hill, crooked leaned against the wall, starting a sketch of him and blue, sitting under that tree with the pretty sky in the background.
Who needs this dumb town. I don't need anything else as long as I have her.
