"You want to do what?" Luka asked me.
"You heard me," I answered.
"No, I thought you said we should involve ourselves in something that we shouldn't do," Luka responded.
"No, I said we should do research," I corrected Luka.
"No, you said we should break into the sheriff's house and snoop around it," Luka told me, giving me a look.
"That too," I added.
Luka gave me a look. You know the watch, it's the one that says we shouldn't do something because it's stupid, look. That was the look I got from Luka.
"Malia, I love you, but let our dads do their job," Luka advised me. He kissed me and went to class.
If Luka doesn't want to help, I know who to enlist to help me. I found Abby in the hallway, walking to class.
"Hey, Abs," I greeted Abby.
Abby stopped and looked at me strangely. "Okay, what's up?" She asked with a knowing look.
"How would you like to ditch school and go exploring?" I asked with a look.
"Go exploring where?" Abby questioned.
"The sheriff's house," I answered.
Abby looked at me, inquisitively. "I'm in," Abby said, and I smiled.

We waited until the coast was clear, then snuck out of school. We ran to Damon's car. Well, Abby ran, I hobbled because my leg was still healing. We got into the car, and I looked at Abby."Does Damon know that you're taking his car?" I asked curiously.
"No, and you won't tell Damon. Plus, I don't have my license yet," Abby answered.
My eyes widened as Abby threw the car into drive and peeled out of the school parking lot.
"Christ, Abby! Are you trying to kill us?" I yelled.
"Stop acting dramatic," Abby answered, rolling her eyes.
Abby drove away from school and turned onto the main road until she came to another way. She rolled onto the road, driving on a two-lane road through woods. I never realized how many trees Michigan has until we came here.
"You seem surprised," Abby said.
"I'm not used to seeing a lot of trees," I replied.
"Doesn't Detroit have trees?" Abby asked.
"Yeah, but it also has a lot of houses, buildings, and bums," I answered.
Abby chuckled.
"What about New York City?" I asked Abby.
"New York City differs from other cities. The city is always awake, and no one cares what you do. You make sure that you don't get mugged," Abby told me.
I giggled. "Why did your dad move you and Damon to Lakewood?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Dad wanted to give us a chance to grow up without falling in with the wrong crowd. Damon hung with kids that drank and smoked. My friends weren't any better. Dad wanted to keep us out of juvie," Abby explained.
That makes sense. Who wants a juvenile delinquent as a kid? Considering our fathers were cops, it didn't look good having to bail us out of jail.
Abby turned onto a road, then pulled into a driveway. After she parked the car, we got out and looked around the house.
"Talk about seclusion," Abby mentioned.
