Ch. 3

I wake the next morning, what I did last night still fresh in my mind. I get my clothes and get in the shower, getting what blood landed on my body off. I wash my hair and watch the dried blood come out. It swirls down the drain and I get out, looking at the clock. 6:20. Good. Plenty of time until I go out to the bus.

I get dressed, brush my teeth, brush my hair, and eat a pop tart. Blueberry. My favorite. I grab my backpack and look at the clock; 6:55. Hmm, I guess time flies when your eating a pop tart.

I sit and listen to music until the clock reads 7:00 and I walk to the bus. I wait for five minutes, never saying a word to the three high schoolers that wait for it with me. When it finally comes, I'm the first on. I sit alone and look out the window. The world blurs by as the bus speed off, stopping at Jessica's house. I smirk as her parents come out in tears, telling the bus driver what happened.

Word quickly spreads from the front of the bus to the back that Jessica was found dead in her room. Her parents weren't whispering about the whole thing, so the people in the front heard and passed it back.

I didn't need to be told. But when someone told me, I acted all surprised and sympathetic. How was I supposed to act? "I already knew, and I know who did it?" Yeah right.

We reach the school and I walk to my locker. I grab the essentials I need for class and go to home room (Home room=Math class). I sit in the back and look out the window to where I seen Jeff yesterday.

I see him standing there again and wave, and he waves back. I smile to myself as I pick up my book and start reading. I read two pages when Drake sits down.

"Hey, Katie. Has Jessica given you a hard time?" he asks me.

"You haven't heard?" I say.

"Heard what?"

"She was found dead in her room last night. I heard it was a gory mess," I say, trying to hide the excitement in my voice. He looks down at the desk.

"Wow," is all he can say. I look back out the window, looking for Jeff, and I see that he's gone. I sigh and look back to my book which is suddenly boring to me. I put it down and raise my hand when my name is called for attendance.

I sit through math doing whatever it is she's teaching us. She goes on about surface area of a square and I ignore it. I already know this, so why learn it again?

I look back out the window and see Jeff sitting against the oak. He seems to be holding something, and I can tell its not a knife. I'll ask him about it later.

*~*~*~*~*

I walk outside for free period, the only person outside at the moment. I'm sure others will soon follow, but until then, I plan on talking to Jeff.

I walk up to the oak and walk around it, and sure enough, Jeff is sitting there. I sit beside him, looking at the thing in his hands. It looks to have the colors of black, brown, and some more colors. I can't get a good glimpse of it before he shoves it into his pocket.

"What was that?" I ask.

"Nothing."

"That was a lot for nothing."

"I know," he says, and I don't push it any farther. I look up at the school to the window I sit in during math. It has no one looking out of it now, nobody sitting at my desk.

I hear someone walking out of the school and Jeff sprints to the woods. I sit with my back against the tree, awaiting someone to come towards me. I hear leafs crunching and they get louder each time.

Drake and Josh sit beside me, one on each side. They look out to the woods, looking suspicious. They must've seen Jeff's figure go towards the woods.

"Who was that?" Josh says.

I smile as I say, "A friend."

Then its my turn for them to look at me suspicious. "A friend?" Drake asks me, trying to get more from me.

"Yup. I don't ask you about your lo- I mean, never mind." Oops, did I just say that? Crap. Now they won't leave me alone until they find out the truth. I hate when things slip out of my mouth.

"Umm, okay. We'll just ask you about it later," Drake says. Josh shrugs, but neither if them leave. I look up at the sky and smile at the clouds. One looks like a knife. Another looks like a turtle (XD Real life experiences. Yup).

"Look at the turtle," I say, pointing at the turtle shaped cloud. They both look up and smile. Then we point out different shapes in the sky.

"See the knife?" Josh says. I nod and smile. Then I see a puppy-shaped cloud, jumping in a meadow.

"Look at the puppy!" I say, love for dogs showing. They look at it and smile. We keep going until we see no more shapes in the sky. I smirk at the way we just stared at clouds for 20 minutes.
