"Freak!" the little boy yelled to the girl, who was now curled up in the fetal position after what she had just endured. It was easy to tell she was crying, which only seemed to goad her tormentors.
"What, do you think crying will help you?" another boy said. "No one's gonna help a monster like you?"
Mina couldn't help but believe their words. Ever since she started developing her Quirk at 4, it had been this way. At first, it hadn't been that big of a deal, with her skin and hair changing to pink. But then her horns started growing, and her sclera turned black. On top of that, her secretions had been revealed to be acidic, burning those that weren't careful.
It caused a large change in her classmates, as they began to see her as a monster. Even now at 7 years old, they still tortured her. The only solace she took in was the fact that when the adults caught the kids bullying her, they tended to step in. Unfortunately, punishment wasn't overly severe, as most adults chalked it up to the kids reacting out of fear.
That was a decent excuse at first, but when most of her torturers were repeat offenders, it became harder for their parents and some of the teachers to defend their actions. And other kids tended to either join in or walk the other way.
"Leave her alone!" another voice broke out, one Mina was unfamiliar with. She took the chance to look up to see a boy her age standing in between her and her tormentors. He had curly hair that rivaled her own, but was a dark green color. He looked rather scrawny, but he held a resolve in keeping the others away from her.
As the other kids were about to press their attack on the green headed boy, his calling out had apparently garnered the attention of some adults nearby, who were coming to investigate. They instead left with a warning to the curly-haired pair. Once they were gone, the boy visibly relaxed, and turned towards Mina.
"Are you okay?" he asked, concern in his eyes as he stretched his hand out to help her up. She hesitantly took it, giving the boy a confused look.
"You're not scared of me?" was her first question. "You don't think I'm a freak?" The boy eagerly shook his head.
"Not at all!" he responded, and Mina could feel the sincerity dripping from his words. "I think you look cool! Is that your Quirk?" Mina wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled genuinely at the boy.
"Well, my Quirk is called Acid," she explained. "But I was told that my skin and hair are pink due to it. And possibly my eyes being black. My horns though are inher-inherdidid from my dad's family." Izuku was in awe.
"That's so cool!" he said, which made Mina smile even wider.
"My name's Mina. Mina Ashido," she said. The boy rubbed the back of his head.
"I'm I-Izuku. I-Izuku M-Midoriya."
"Do you want to play with me, Izuku?" Mina asked, causing the boy to smile, before his countenance fell.
"I'd like to, but I don't think you'd want to play with me," he said sadly, and Mina gave him another confused look. "I don't want people to attack you for playing with a...a Quirkless nobody like me." Mina's eyes widened, before her face set in the same kind of resolve that Izuku had shown when he intervened on her behalf.
"So?" she said. "I don't care if you have a Quirk. You're a good person that helped me, and I want to be friends with you." This made Izuku smile, and tears welled up in his eyes. To Mina, he looked adorable like that. He vigorously nodded his head, and the two set off to play, a wondrous friendship (and more) awaiting their future.
A/N: Another shorter one, but I think it goes well with the prompt and an alternate first meeting between the two.
