   ESTHER'S POV

At one point, I had dreams for Oliver and me to be out in the field taking down the bad guys together (no matter the time or place), but I never thought that I would find myself targeting the one man whom I felt had understood me. So, I thought that he understood me, but he was just using me to keep an eye on my father.
My father had made some terrible mistakes and cost many people in Starling City their careers, but he was still my father. My mother was an alcoholic, and I knew that I was the last thing on her mind every day. I had tried to get her to stop drinking many times, but it was hard to get someone to stop something when they had no intention to stop.

And I had no intentions of letting Oliver get away after putting an arrow through my father's leg.

I helped my father to an open chair before I immediately worked to make his pain a little less painful. Once I removed the arrow from the inside of his leg, I threw it to the side before I quickly tended to my father's wound. Once I got him to lie down, I wrapped his leg before I looked down at the arrow that I threw.

My father said softly,"Esther, it's not your fault. I..I'm all right. Take me home. I've had enough for..for today."

I nodded, then I took my father home. I guided him inside, and Mom was watching t.v. I helped Dad up the stairs and into the bedroom before he got into bed without my help.

I looked towards the window, and Dad followed my brown eyes as he said,"Esther, not tonight. Don't go back out there."

  "But I have to-"

Dad took my hand before he pleaded with me,"Esther, don't. Your mother is downstairs drinking, and she was drinking before I left this morning. I need you here. You can talk to Mr. Queen tomorrow."

I walked over to the window and closed it before I sat down on the edge of Dad's bed. I was his protection in case Mom tried to come in here messing with him.

My right hand was killing me, and I walked into the bathroom. I took the bloody gauze from around my hand, replacing it with a clean gauze. I looked back at my father, who was asleep already.

When I saw Mom standing in the doorway, she held a bottle in her hand as she said,"Why is your father asleep? I told him to get me some more before he came home."

Mom moved to go towards Dad, but I stopped her before saying,"Don't wake him. He's had a long day."

Mom chuckled before she said,"And I haven't had a long day? Did you hear back about the job yet?"

"No, I haven't heard anything. Let's just talk downstairs."

Suddenly, Mom grabbed me by my neck, slamming me into the wall.

My back was still sore from when I had fallen earlier, and Mom said,"Look at me, Esther. You're going to go get me something else to drink, or I will make things harder for your father."

  "O..Okay, I'll get it."

Mom let go of me before I coughed, rubbing my neck. Mom smirked at me before Dad opened his eyes.

He noticed me on the floor, so he tried to get out of bed.

I held out my hand as I said,"No! I'm fine. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing."

Dad nodded, and I looked back at Mom. Then, I jogged down the stairs before I closed the door behind me. I prayed to God that Mom wouldn't do anything to Dad while I was gone, but a familiar, green-hooded figure landed in front of me.
