   ESTHER'S POV

I really didn't have time to talk to Oliver or Green Arrow or whatever he called himself today, but I knew that I did need to get back here to my father. I didn't trust my mother, yet I did trust the fact that she would do something to my father if I didn't return with the very thing that was warping her mind every single day.

I zipped up my jacket, then I looked Oliver directly in the eyes as I said,"I can't talk right now. I am mad at you for shooting my father in the leg with an arrow, but we can talk about that later. I really have to go get something for my mother."

Oliver said,"We can talk as we walk to wherever you have to go."

I shook my head before I said,"Don't bother. I'm more than capable of taking care of myself without the Arrow's help."

"I'm sure that you can, but if you want answers, then the Arrow comes with you."

I sighed before I said,"Fine. Just don't talk too much."

He chuckled, but he walked behind me. Once I made it to the store, I bought the drinks for Mom and then something for my pain.

When I made my way out of the store, the Arrow jumped down beside me before he noticed the drinks in my hand.

He sent me sympathetic eyes as he asked me,"She still drinking?"

I nodded before I began to walk back towards my parents' place. The streets of Starling City seemed longer as I walked beside the Arrow, though.

However, I looked at him before I asked him,"Why does your suit keep changing?"

He answered,"It just does. Things change, Esther. What happened to your neck?"

I closed my eyes for a couple of seconds, but I felt Oliver take my hand in his own.

Immediately, I opened my eyes before I asked him,"What are you doing?"

"I just want you to know that I've got your back if you want my help."

I stopped walking before I asked him,"Why did you shoot my father with an arrow?"

He showed me a photo of my father as he said,"Your father stole thousands of dollars from an innocent man, and I wanted to have a conversation with him. Your father got defensive and shot at me, then I shot him with an arrow in his leg."

I shook my head before I said,"There's no way that my father did that. He's... He's a good person. He didn't mean for all those people to lose their jobs. And how do you know that my father stole all this money?"

"It was caught on camera, and he confessed to it before he shot at me."

"How do you know that he wasn't being used?"

The Arrow smiled at me, and then he said,"Why do you think that I shot him in the leg instead of somewhere more critical? I need you to talk to him and then tell me what you find out. If there's someone else that's threatening my city, then I want to know about them."

Once we made it to the door, I turned to face him before I said,"Thanks for not killing him. And how do you know that I'll tell you what I find out?"

He answered,"I don't know, Esther, but I have faith that you'll show to tell me what you know. And you're welcome. And Esther?"

He took my hand, then he gave it a squeeze before he said,"Despite what you might think, I do care about you. I always did. It was never about your father. It was always about you. Always."

I smiled at him weakly before I nodded. He left, and I walked inside. Mom snatched the drinks from me, but I just headed up the stairs. I opened the bedroom door, and Dad was sitting on the bed. He was writing something down, but he wouldn't let me look at it.

I tried to cover my neck, but he had already noticed it. He frowned and immediately got up, pulling me over to the bed. Dad put something against my neck, and I groaned in pain. He kept it there as I did everything that I could do to think of anything else.

When he was done, he just held me as he said,"Esther, you have your own place. You know that you don't have to be here to take care of your old man all the time."

  "I need to be here."

"No, you don't. You need to be with Mr. Queen."

"I don't want to talk about Oliver right now. We were never together, Dad, and he shot you with an arrow because he said that you stole thousands of dollars."

With the look Dad was giving me right now, he had stolen thousands of dollars. What was he thinking?

Before I could say anything, he said,"Esther, despite how this looks, I meant well."

I put my hand on his shoulder before I said,"No. You said that you were going to do good. You said that you were going to try to relax. Dad, please tell me where the money is, and I can get Oliver to give that man back his money. Please."

Dad slowly nodded, and then he told me where the money was. Yet, I had to know why he took it. Maybe I'll ask him another day. Right now, I just needed to get back to Oliver to make sure that money made it back to its owner. Enough things had gone horribly for Dad, and I didn't want this to be another.

"What was the money for, Dad? Why take it?"

Dad opened his mouth to speak, but then we overheard Mom yelling downstairs.

He said,"I'll tell you another time. Go home, sweetheart. Go home."

I nodded, and Dad let go of me. I kissed his cheek before I walked down the stairs.

Mom just looked at me before I walked out.

....

Once I made it home, I immediately got into the shower before I noticed all the blood that was going down the drain. I washed up before I wrapped my hair and laid down.
I just looked up at the ceiling, knowing that it would take me a minute to actually fall asleep. Telling Oliver what I knew had to wait until tomorrow. But knowing myself, I would be up again in just a few hours.
