The Youtube House

Chapter 1

"Likes are appreciated, comments are welcome. Subscribe if you want to see more of my face, goodbye!" I say as I jump out my chair and put my hand over the lens of my Canon Power-shot SX510 HS. Not the best camera in the world, but it will do. My subscribers really don't mind anyway. They all say they like my 'sense of humor' and the 'amount of sarcasm I use' better anyways. I really don't see it. You know I say all of them, but I really only have 8,382 subscribers. Not that many, but still something. I have been doing this YouTube thing for 2 years, and even though I love it, I still don't have any payoff from it.

"Madison! C'mon what is taking you so long? We're going to be late! Hurry your ass up!" My roommate Kaylin yells from down the hall.

"I'm coming! Hold on for a sec." I say back.

I finish putting my uniform on and meet her down at her car.

"Took you long enough," she says as I get in the car.

"Hey, I was finishing up a video," I respond.

"You know you can't do that forever. It's not doing you or us any good," she says as she pulls out of our parking complex.

"What, and our jobs at the gym are making us rich? Minimum wage is not doing us any good," I say.

"It pays bills and buys us food Madison! That's all we really need at this point," Kaylin says, giving a very valid point.

"Whatever, let's just try not to get into any trouble today can we," I say.

"It has only been two times, and I am really going to try this time. I promise I won't get us fired again okay?"

"Yeah, whatever," I say as we pull into the gym.

4 hours later

"Are you fucking serious Kaylin? Again?" I yelled at her as we were walking out of our once new jobs.

"Hey! I did what I had to do! You did not have to back me up you know. I had it taken care of," Kaylin says back.

I get in the passenger seat of the car and she drives. The entire ride is silent. After our third time getting fired I don't really know what to expect. Someone makes a stupid request, Kaylin makes a sarcastic remark, customer calls manager, Kaylin and manager fight, I back her up, we get fired, same thing every time.

We get to our apartment, still in silence, and head in. Without saying a word she heads off to her room and I go to the couch. I decide to edit the video I just made.

About an hour later I am still editing. This is the thing I hate about YouTube. Maybe Kaylin was right, maybe I should quit. But YouTube is my escape, it takes me away from all the negative things in my life. I can't just leave the best thing in my life.

About a minute later, Kaylin comes down the hall and goes to the kitchen. She reaches onto the top of the fridge and grabs a bottle.

"What is it?" I say to her putting my laptop away.

"Tequila. Want some?" she answers.

"Yes, definitely." I answer. She grabs two glasses and walks over to the couch. She hands me one and sits down next to me. Kaylin pours both of us some and turns on the TV. I decide to break the silence.

"Kaylin, you are my best friend. I am going to back you up through whatever shit you get yourself stuck in. No matter what." I say as I take a sip of my drink.

"I know that. I am going to be there too. And I promise I am going to control what I say. I will not get us fired again. I hope anyways," she says making us both laugh. We both take drinks and look toward the TV.

Kaylin is flipping through channels and stops on the news for some odd reason.

"In some television news," the reporter says."The new show The YouTube House is starting to take submissions now! All you have to do is make a YouTube Video introducing yourself and why you want to be on the show. there will be six winners that will go to L.A. to compete on the show. The prize is 100,000 dollars, a collab with a bunch of YouTube personalities, and a partnership with YouTube! Selection closes in 10 days so hurry up!"

Kaylin looks at me, but I am too busy glaring at the TV to notice. This could be my big break, I could do this. I am going to do this.
