II- His Theme

I spend the rest of the day under the stairwell. I'm skinny enough to get under there, and no one else would ever really to put in the effort to get down here at me.

I crunch down on a chocolate bar I got out of a vending machine by the cafeteria. It's easy to pick the lock on it. If they really cared about how much food I've been taking, they should change the lock, hm?

I leave early, before the buses come. I go straight to Mount Ebott and go to my "home". I sleep in a tree - well, I sleep in a hammock that I made from a blanket. If I'm not at school I eat chocolate and whatever food I can find or bring from school. I sleep mostly. There isn't anything else to do.

Today I visit the hole. The... "Underground". I look down and see something golden... flowers. There's a slight movement that must be some breeze.

A stick snaps behind me.

I freeze and turn. No one comes here. Not even to jump. Everyone here has too good a life to think to jump.

Except me.

A blue robed person steps out of the brush and I breathe. It's them.

"Bluebird!" I smile, just barely, and step toward them. Bluebird lives on Ebott too. They're much younger than I am and I have to say, they are the only one in this world that I give half a shit about. Call me a mother bird, but I don't want them to go through the same shit I do.

They've never come to the hole before. I'd made sure of that. So why are they here?

"What's up, Blue?" I walk closer, then see someone else. In the brush. Something goes cold inside me.

I'd recognize that red hair anywhere.

He stands up, smirking. "So here's your little secret. A runt of your own? Who would think such an edgy kid would be such a damn pushover."

I back up as he starts walking towards me. "Why the hell are you here, Kade?"

My childhood friend. The first to abandon me.

~~...and the first, coincidentally, who would fall by my hand.~~

"Why are you here, Freak? Gonna stop being a waste of space? About time." His lips curl into a sneer.

Somehow, this whole time, I had thought he would come back. Not consciously, maybe. But somehow this second betrayal stings, like I expected different. Like I expected the kind six year old he had been.

Suddenly, he seems so different.

He

Is just

Like

Them.

I'm cold.

"Well, Freak?"

The first day of school, when I stood before the class and introduced myself, they asked if my eyes were really red. I told them they were natural, and they all laughed. That's when I started hearing the name...

'What a freak, does she think we're stupid?'

'What a fucking freak.'

Freak. Freak. Freak

It's all I heard when I slept.

Until I stopped caring.

And now...

I don't care about anything.

I

am

done.

He steps closer, sneering, and grabs Blue.

And I stop thinking.
