Chloe
After I left Will, I continued running towards Wal-Mart. When I entered, I went straight to customer service to get someone to help me pick out a gift. They lead me to a girl named Martha who was way to perky for my liking. She said,"Merry Christmas sweetheart! What can I help you with?" I very impatiently told her that I needed a gift for my mother, and when she had finally found one she said,"Oh this is just a lovely purple scarf! I'm sure she will just love this." I nodded, but found it hard to think about anything other than Will.
I paid for the scarf and floated home on a cloud of happiness. I arrived at the apartment at six in the morning; an hour before my mother woke up. When she saw a gift under our miniature tree for her she said,"Oh Chloe, you didn't have to get me anything." She unwrapped the red packaging and cried,"Oh, it's beautiful sweetie! Thank you so much." I had just nodded my head, she loved the gift, but that usually wouldn't be enough for me. I would usually go to bed angry that I didn't have more money to buy something that would make me enough for her. But not now. Now I felt that I was finally enough for someone; no one else mattered to me.
I woke up the next morning, a Saturday, to the sound of my blasting alarm. It was almost as if I awoke from a dream and fell into a nightmare. My daily nightmare, that is.
I opened my eyes and saw the usual darkness, I pushed off my covers and struggled to find my alarm clock. Then for the first time in my life, I woke up from my nightmare. I smelled my mother's lilacs and remembered my date with Will.
I ran down the hallway with the help of my walking stick. As usual, a bowl of Lucky Charms sat ready for me on the kitchen counter. My mother stood behind the counter, ready to help me with whatever I needed.
Today, I didn't need anything"Mom, I'm not hungry, but I do need some help with my hair."
My mother sounded really confused, " You're hair? You never do your hair!" She always told me that my hair is a blonde, curly mess atop my head. I never cared enough to do anything with it before I met Will.
"Ya I know, but I think it's time I finally try something new."
She sounded excited and completely convinced. I was finally becoming the daughter she'd always wanted, but never had. She said,"Ok! Well I'm all for trying new things! What do you want?"
I thought long and hard until the right answer came to me,"Something beautiful."
My mother spent an hour doing my hair and only described it to me as "beautiful". When she finished at around ten o'clock I asked her for another favor,"Mom would you mind helping me pick out an outfit? I'm meeting a friend for lunch."
"Oh! A boy?" My cheeks must have turned a bright shade of red"Oh! Yes. Of course I'll help you!" My mother picked out some sort of dress for me that she called "pretty".
At around 11:30, I left the apartment to meet Will. When I arrived, I hid my walking stick in a bush, so I wouldn't blow my cover. I then walked around, hoping that Will would see me since I was already ten minutes late.
Soon, I felt a soft tap on my shoulder, so I turned around in its direction. When I did so, Will's sweet voice spoke again,"Wow! Just wow! You're stunning!"
"Thank you, but I'm also starving."
"Oh right. Well, me too. Come on, let's go." He grabbed my hand and I smiled.
