"just hanging with the band." michael laughed, sitting deeper into the comfort of ashton's couch. i rolled my eyes, typing quickly on my phone as the band continued bickering back and forth. "what the hell are you doing, michael?"
he shrugged as i looked up. "as i said, hanging with the band."
before i could smartly or evilly reply, calum stood from his bench. "luna, i swear to goodness, tell luke his ideas are stupid and that ashton and i are better than him."
"luke, your ideas are stupid and ashton and calum are better than you." i said smoothly and without hesitation, and luke's mouth flew open. "you don't even know the situation!"
"i don't need to. you were probably wrong and you've probably said something stupid." like always, i thought, laughing a little. michael scrunched his brows at me. "no, what's the problem."
despite me constantly acting like i hated the boys, i was always there to help them. they called me their babe-ager, "what, luna? you're hot, and you make all our decisions" ashton once told me, before i shoved him back from his seat. they always call me it, although i hated it.
"luke says that we should name our band 'bromance'. who the hell would call theirselves a fan of a band called bromance?" ashton sighed, twirling his drumstick between his fingers. "like, seriously. that's just disgusting."
"hey," luke fought, crossing his arms, "you asked for me to come up with a band name that represents us. what more describes us than a few boys with some bromance?"
this has become a common argument between the triangle point of boys. it always ended up ashton siding with calum, and luke turning his back to their suggestions. some names that floated around were good; fitting for them, simple. but some were just awful, like luke's latest suggestion.
"sorry luke, you know i love you. but that name is just terrible." i shrugged. "all good band names have an animal or a number in them, or 'the'. the 1975, the arctic monkeys, the weeknd." i noted, biting at my thumb.
this made them think a little. michael was particularly quiet, before he raised his voice to speak. "can i make a suggestion?"
luke's head flew towards him, the other two soon following. "yes, go for it! we're up for any name, at this point."
"what about 5 seconds of summer?" michael scratched nervously at his leg. "y'know, like, i don't know. summer is cool. and like luna said, there's a number."
"there's only three of us..." calum commented, before closing his eyes. "but, i do like that. a lot."
ashton nodded, and luke soon followed. "it's catchy."
michael had a triumph smile on his face, clapping his hands together. "thanks, dude. you're great! 5 seconds of summer, that sits well." luke confirmed, picking back up his guitar. "michael you said you played, right?"
a mop of green hair shook up and down, confirming. "why don't you show us a little? play a song." luke passed over his guitar, and michael took it with nervous hands.
after a couple of seconds, american idiot by green day was filling the room perfectly. it was nearly spot on, not a flaw in his performance. michael's face was concentrated and passionate the entire song, earning applause from his small audience.
"you totally killed it, michael!" i said first, smiling at the giddy boy. he was handing the guitar back, shifting on his heels to await the band's feedback.
ashton was the first to comment. "i totally agree, dude. hey, how would you like to be apart of the band? it's only fair, since you gave us a name. plus, you totally rock."
"shit, really?" michael stuttered, widening his eyes. "that would be epic!"
that was the start of something big; none of us had a clue.
