3 - Even Kirei has Emotions

Fuyuki Church

"My servant has been lost. I have forfeited my right as a master and cannot continue the holy grail war. In accordance with the treaty, I Kirei Kotomine, ask that the church grant me sanctuary." Kirei said as he and his father stood outside the church doors.

"Request granted. In my role as overseer of this war I, Risei Kotomine, guarantee your safety here. Enter in peace." Risei replied.

"DAD! GRAMPS! IM BACK!"

The two jumped and look wide-eyed to the gate to see Shirou waving at them whilst jogging over with his red cloak bundled in his arms.

"Shirou? Why are you getting back so late?" Kirei asked his son who stopped beside them panting. That's when Kirei noticed the blood stains on his sons clothes, hands and face as well as a scratch on his cheek. "What happened?" Kirei asked, his voice filled with worry.

"Umm can we talk about it inside?" Shirou asked as he held his cloak closer.

"Father, isn't this church being watched?" Kirei asked as he stood in front of his father at the front of the church, with Shirou sitting on a chair in the front row.

"No, this holy place has been declared a neutral sanctuary. The holy church will sencha any master who dares defy the decree." Risei replied.

"Then, you're sure it's safe here?" Kirei asked, he recieved a nod from his father in reply. "But still, you should keep watch just in case. Post a guard here at all times just to be sure." Kirei said whilst looking at the end of the row that Shirou is sat at.

"Yes, Understood." A female voice said as a female assassin appeared out of black smoke where Kirei is looking.

"Tell me, who was observing the battle?" Kirei asked her.

"Before the battle I detected the presence of familiars from two separate masters." Assassin reported.

"Last night I was able to confirm the summoning of the final servant, beserker. All the holy grail war servants should of now arrived, fighting should begin shortly." Risei added.

"Only two were watching? What about the other three? I had hoped that all the masters would be watching and taking note of the encounter." Kirei said in disappointment.

"At this point in the war, observing the three families estates would be a masters obvious course of action." Another assassin said appearing on the opposite side, a row over, from the female assassin.

"That's right and if they can't even think to do that, it would never even begin to occurre to them to worry about the existence of us assassins." Another assassin said this one sitting down and laughing.

"We spirits of the shadows shall sneak up behind those masters who believe assassin to be dead." Came another assassin this one smaller.

"We shall sneak up behind them and this time, we shall become true shadows in the darkness." Said the rest of the assassins who also appeared.

"The battle for the Grail is now at hand. At last it's time for the fourth holy grail war to begin." Risei said to them all whilst beside him Kirei stood emotionless whilst looking at his son, who is the only one able to see the worry in his eyes and the sadness.

"These tired old eyes of mine can finally see a wondrous miracle be performed." Risei said.

Kirei looked down at the ground, his hair shadowing his face.

Shirou looked at his father in concern seeing how sad he looks. 'I don't know if I should tell them the truth.' Shirou thought to both himself and his servant.
