The year's 2037 — The age of advanced artificial intelligence. With the current rate of advancement in the field of gaming technology, virtual reality gaming has taken over the gaming world by a huge margin, and many game developers are working hard on them now. It has become a booming business.
The most awaited VR game of the decade 'Another World Adventure' releases its closed beta version next week. And its developers RifRits Entertainment have specifically handpicked the virtual gamers themselves for the beta test.
Among the chosen two hundred and twenty seven beta testers, was Sharrel Welmiller — one of the most proficient gamers of her generation, the daughter of the director of RifRits Entertainment, and supposedly its next director — who received the first copy the game a whole week early, thanks to her father.
Another World Adventure, abbreviated as AWA, is an action-adventure VRMMORPG game set on a fantasy post-medieval world with magic. What makes this game the most awaited game of the decade consists of two main reasons. First is the insanely realistic graphics the game has, which is said to be so realistic that it's no different than the real world. Second is the fact that every non-player characters (NPCs) possess human-like mindsets, meaning every NPC in the game are A.I., and do not require to be commanded. They are no different than the real humans, with the only exception that they do not yet have a physical existence.
The legendary genius behind the development of all the A.I.s for the game, and the lead supervisor of the AWA project is Kevin Fanner. Ever since the completion of the main phase of the project, Kevin voluntarily left it. Currently he has went missing — right before one of his greatest project was near fruition and expected to be officially released the next month.
Kevin Fanner was one of the most prominent figures in the contribution of virtual reality gaming, and also regarded as the 'Bottle Opener of Virtual Reality' by VReal Magazine. One of his great projects include the dream gears (abbreviated as DG), which are headgears used in order to access full-dive into a virtual reality game.
"Whaat?! Your father got you the beta version of AWA?", responded Sally Kalliver — Sharrel's childhood friend, and also one of the handpicked beta testers for AWA. They were on a video chat.
"Yup. Here's the proof!", said Sharrel, as she brought forward the game cover towards the webcam.
"Sigh, I see your father hasn't changed even a bit. No wonder my father is very strict to him.", said Sally.
Sharrel giggled at looking her friend's rich expression through the monitor. Sally, one the other hand, grabbed a chocolate bar and started munching on it to relieve stress.
"So, you're gonna start playing the game then?", asked Sally.
"Of course. Why not?", responded Sharrel.
"Not even a bit of hesitation. Like father, like daughter.", thought Sally.
"Well, go ahead and play first. You better grab some rare gear in advance for both of us. You get it?", said Sally coldly.
"Don't worry. That's what I planned to do from the start.", responded Sharrel confidently.
"Should've known. Well then, have fun playing, Rayka."
"Later, Astrea."
With that, Sharrel ended the call.
What's the time now? Half past ten? Yawn, tonight's gonna be fun.
Sharrel got up of her chair, headed downstairs towards the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and bought out a dozen packets of choco sticks — her favorite snack. And headed back to her room. She took out her DG from the shelves that had been collecting dust for a whole month, and used piece of cloth to wipe it clean. She then connected it to her console, and initiated the installation of the game.
