I need a job. I had a little over 10 thousand dollars but that was not gonna cut it. Yes it would keep me for about a month or so but taxes would be on demand. I moved from my old apartment. It was too expensive and to be honest, the memories I made there were not the best. Bodies, pain. I shook my head. It was just a bad place. I've reduced to only eating dinner so my hunger level is quite high. It's going down hill. I need a job. I been looking all over to and with determination and hard work, I found one I maybe able to do. Financial work. Yeah so it's bore. At least I'd get money and be able to function like a human being. I will be going down the an office building that has a financial department tomorrow to some how put an inter view together. I hope I'll be ready. I pulled off my jacket and laid beside the boxes I still haven't unpacked.
"Ugh wow..." I said looking at them. I rolled over to my side when the door bell rang. I sat up quickly.
"Go away people." I said acting like getting up was a chore. I slumped over and in my sweat pants and tank top I opened the door to a fine looking man in a prim suit and a fine pair of black shoes. He was well kept, the opposite of me, and I felt like a piece of crap just looking at him.
"Hello." I said quietly. I felt my pants slip a little so I yanked them back in place and smiled.
"I heard I had a new neighbor so I wanted to say hello and welcome to the 4 floor." I starred and blinked at him. Man, could he cut the crap?
"Thanks, I guess." I starred at the ceiling.
"I got this for you." He handed me a weird plant.
"Thank you for the...plant. Sorry I don't know it's name."
"I don't know what is either so we are on the same page. He smiled at me. Warm bodies, pleasure, fighting. I rubbed my head.
"Well thank you for the gift and the welcome. I feel like I'm part of the family, if you know what I mean."
"Yeah, I do." He leaned on the door.
"Excuse me but I'd like to close my door." I reached for the knob when he put his hand on mine. Pain, pain. I pulled my hand away.
"I'm sorry that was an accident. I'll see you later ok?"
"Yeah sure." I said very annoyed. I closed the door and set my plant down. That guy didn't tell me his name. I'll have to ask him. Like I want to. He is my neighbor. I should be friendly. I'm am such a dick when it comes to new people. That night I turned off every light in the house and used candles and flashlights. I would save money and now my house smelled wonderful. I needed to go out and get dinner so I pulled on jeans and a t-shirt that said MAKE IT UP in big black letters. I looked at my hair not sure what to do with it and just let it be. It was fine the way it was. I grabbed my wallet, blew out most of the candles, and went outside. The hallway was dimly lighted and some what creepy. There was an elevator at the end of the hall and a flickering light. Huge scratches were all over the wall and trash littered the floor. Did it look like this when I came here this morning? Well I was carry boxes so I couldn't really see but...still. They can't just let it be trashed like this. I walked to the creepy elevator and pressed the dory button. Just then the flickering light went out. Great. I would just move but I don't have the money for that. I'm stuck here until I get rich or I get a wife and we move out together. Or a husband, said a voice in the back of my head. I ignored it. I turned on my phone flash light because the dark scares me. Yeah so I'm 21. I can be scared if the dark. Plus the elevator is taking 3 years. Something touched my shoulder. I screamed and whirled around. It was the guy that gave me that weird plant.
"Hey nothing to be scared about. It just the dark." He smiled at me but this time it looked really creepy. I backed away from him.
"Oh come on your such a baby." Be rolled his eyes and pushed my flashlight away from him.
"That hurts my eyes." I looked at my phone and then him.
"Oh sorry. I wasn't trying to bother you."
"That's just fine. What did you say your name was?" The elevator finally opened. We stepped inside and the doors closed. I pushed ground floor and the elevator slowly took us down.
"I never told you my name. It's Jack Harper." I smiled at him a little.
"Oh. I'm Vane."
"Vane what?"
"Just Vane. I had another name but I've changed." I was about to answer him when the elevator when incredibly fast. My hair flew up and I almost fell over. It stopped and then shot back up and then back down again. I was screaming my head off but Vane was quiet. He didn't even flinch. He just starred at me as I rolled around the whole elevator. When we were going back down I flew into Vane's arms. He laughed and set me up again just when the elevator had stopped. The doors opened to the beautiful lobby and I ran out of the elevator and threw up in a trash can near a chair. Vane looked at me like I was crazy.
"Jack, have you never been on a elevator?"
"I have too! That elevator is messed up." Vane titled his head and looked at me.
"Just what are you, Jack?"
"What do you mean what am I? I'm a human." Vane glared at the floor and then looked back at me.
"Sorry for the weird question. Anyways, I'll see you later. I've got to go to work." He starred at my neck. Vane got closer to me.
"Oh ok. Nice talking to you Vane." I sighed and walked over to the nearest super market and when I got back I took the stairs, not that damn elevator.
