Hello! I'm going to update about five chapters. So hang tight and have fun!
"Ben," she breathed, pulling me in and softly closing the door. "I was so worried. Where did you go?"
"I..." I figured it wouldn't be a good time to tell Erica about Cynthia, so I showed her the paper I had in my pocket.
"This...this is their plan," I explained, showing her the piece of paper. "There's not much time left."
"What do you mean?" Erica asked in a hushed tone.
I told her about Murray's conversation. "SPYDER and Lucio bought nine nuclear missiles, all for seven billion dollars illegally. They're all aimed at Sydney Harbor tomorrow at ten."
"I can stop that," Erica quickly replied. "We ran into Murray. He has a remote control thing that launches the missiles. He and James handcuffed the rest of the team. I escaped, but it won't be long before they find either of us."
I looked into her icy blue eyes, worry seeping through my body. "You go and free them. "I have other stuff to do first."
"If anything happens to any of us..." Erica began, "I just wanted to let you know that you've been an amazing partner and friend, Ben."
"Same goes for you," I replied. We shared a brief hug, but Erica immediately let go. "Bye, Ben. see you later, hopefully."
"It was amazing knowing you," I spoke softly, then raced out of the room. I hastily but cautiously ran from room to room, searching for my friends. They had to be somewhere."...hold in for three,' came Lucio's voice from behind me. It was close. I spun around to find the door to the room behind me slightly ajar.
"I'm going to the control room," came James's voice. I froze. Erica was headed there. I turned around and walked into the room I was standing in front of.
I closed the door behind me, relieved to have a temporary hiding spot.
I wasn't that relieved to see Murray Hill.
"Going somewhere, Ben?" he asked.
"I've figured out-" I began, but he cut me off.
"Our plan?" he finished. "Of course you did, Ripley. But this time, you can't stop us."
"We will." I tried to stand confidently.
Murray only laughed. "Right."
I tried bolting out of the room, but Murray cocked the gun in his hand, making me in a position where I couldn't move at all.
Gun aimed straight at me, Murray popped a piece of candy in his mouth. He swallowed it whole and stared at me dead in the eye. "You know what, Ripley? I could shoot you right here, right now. But where's the fun in that?"
I groaned. This wasn't going to end here.
Murray unmindfully continued. "You're going to die anyways, so I'll tell you the part of our plan that you haven't figured out yet." He popped three more pieces of candy in his mouth. "All evidence of any nuclear activity and illegal dealing is in this very building."
"So?" I asked, but I already knew the answer.
"Isn't it obvious?" he sneered. "We're blowing up the building in eh..." he glanced at a timer on his smartwatch. "Twenty-four minutes and thirty-three seconds."
A timer had already started ticking down in my head. I glanced from the door to Murray.
He was Murray Hill. He had the fighting skills of a cotton ball. I could easily defeat him in a minute. But he had a gun in his hand.
I lunged towards him as he popped another piece of candy in his mouth, sending the gun flying out of his hands. Before he had any chance to react, I jabbed a pointed foot in his stomach.
He doubled over, clutching his stomach. I took this as my chance to escape.
I made a huge mistake.
Murray grabbed my leg and pulled on it. I gave a surprised yelp as I crashed to the ground.
"Ha." he dusted his hands and stood up straight, walking to the door. As he did, though, I took it as my chance to leg sweep him from my spot on the floor.
Now it was his turn to yelp and crash to the floor. As quickly as I could, I leapt up, locked the door from the inside and shut the door behind me, locking Murray in.
Then I ran.
I ran as fast as I could, across hallways and around corners, trying to remember where I had left Cynthia.
I finally came to a stop outside one room. "Cynthia!" I cried, throwing the door open. She sat there in a corner, running pale fingers through her lustrous hair. Her violet eyes met mine and I held her gaze for a moment.
She ran up to me, taking my hands in hers. The mental timer in my head read 17:34. I didn't have much time.
I secretly hoped that Erica and the others were safe. I closed my eyes for a brief moment, and opened them again to see a puzzled Cynthia in front of me.
"Ben," she said softly, "now?"
I nodded, gesturing for her to sit next to me. As she sat, though, the door suddenly slammed shut, and the sound of a key in the keyhole clicked, taking me by surprise. My heart skipped a beat.
We were locked inside.
"Ben," she pressed. "What's going on?" Her breathing was rapid, and her hands were trembling. As much as I was used to this, she was not.
I sat down on the floor and sighed. "Look, Cynthia, whatever I'm about to tell you is going to be very astonishing, so listen carefully."
She only nodded.
"I'm a spy for the Central intelligence Agency in the United States of America," I said, choosing my words carefully. "I go to an academy for spies there, along with Mike, Zoe and Erica. Erica is the same person as Lacy. I'll explain that too."
She sat there, her eyes wide. "What?"
"Look, we came to Australia because your dad...he's not a good man. He wants to blow up Sydney Harbor and he's involved in a lot of illegal arms dealing. We needed more information on him, so we used you and your brother to derive information from him. Erica already told Jamie that she's a spy. Look, he's up to no good. In about fifteen minutes and three seconds, this building is going to blow up."
Her eyes widened. "Blow up?"
I nodded. "We'll find a way out of this. This has happened to me thousands of times. We'll be fine."
She nodded, but her eyes weren't so confident. "Why did you lie to me?"
"It was for your own good, Cynthia. But now you're with me. You're safe. When we escape, you'll stay with me, Erica, Mike, Zoe, Erica's parents, and your brother." I tried my best to sound reassuring, choosing my every word carefully.
Her eyes sparkled. "Okay. But do you promise we'll be fine?"
"Yes, Cynthia, we'll be absolutely fine." I forced a weak smile and squeezed her hand. "Now we just have to find a way out of this mess."
I could only hope that Erica was doing fine.
