Annabelle was completely, utterly tired. It was six in the afternoon and it was a super busy day.
But it wasn't only that. She was also mentally exhausted. She spent the whole day thinking about her family. Adding to the normal everyday problems she has to think about, she had yet one more problem.
But it wasn't a normal one. Her mother fell sick, really sick. She didn't really understand what the sickness is, due to the lack of education, but she understood that it was really dangerous.
And it needed pills, expensive pills. Occasional visits to the doctor. And a special diet. And that's why Annabelle was forever thankful to her boss. Because he took care of most of these expenses, albeit her insistence that it wasn't necessary.
But still, she didn't tell him about everything. He only knew about the doctor visits and some of the pills. She and her father took care of the rest.
So now, for almost two weeks, she spent her whole day thinking about her mom, her sister, the house, the bills and the medicine.
And not to forget her new friend. Who hasn't come back even once. Annabelle kept on re playing that day in her head, remembering everything she said and how she said it making sure she didn't say anything offensive or stupid.
But no. Nothing weird and nothing stupid. That's why she kept on wondering what might've went wrong . Did she forget about her? Most likely. The whole thing was abnormal anyway. People like Jasmine can't socialise with people like Annabelle.
Annabelle sighed as she put the money in the box and hid it. It was just too much for one person to handle. And sometimes, just sometimes, she genuinely wished it would all end.
Once she was out of the shop she put her hand in her pocket to make sure she grabbed her money. Then she went ahead and closed the shop and headed back home.
When the cold breeze of the night hit her face, she felt a little refreshed. The walk home let her sort out her thoughts before getting home. She couldn't go home troubled. Her sister would notice her mood change and be upset herself.
Soon enough, she arrived. Opening the door and getting in, she noticed that the house was unusually quiet. She didn't feel good about it.
She checked the kitchen, no one. She checked the living room, still no one. Where are they? She then ran to her sister's room.
Swaying the door open, she saw that she fell asleep on her books. My poor baby. Annabelle let out a sigh of relief and smiled before putting her on her bed.
After covering her with a blanket, she gently kissed her forehead and left the room quietly.
Annabelle then walked to her mother's room, to check on how she was doing and whether or not she drank her medicine.
Her mother, too, was asleep. Annabelle looked at her for a while. Her mother wasn't always bad. Well, her mother was never bad. She just doesn't care as much as she does.
Annabelle remembers how she took her to parks when she was really small. She remembers how they watched the ducks, chased the cats.
She remembers when her mother still tucked her in bed, singing her to sleep. There was a time when things weren't as stressful. And her parents weren't as indifferent.
Annabelle felt her eyes tear up, so she blinked multiple time while looking up, to prevent the tears from falling.
Annabelle caressed her mother's cheek. She was a little cold. Annabelle frowned. She wasn't usually cold. Looking at her nightstand, she saw that she didn't drink her afternoon medicine.
Now Annabelle was concerned. Taking a step back, she felt shiver run down her spine. It wasn't possible. She just needs one more blanket. That's all yes. She was just feeling cold.
With shivering hands, she grabbed a blanket, covered her mom and left the room hurriedly.
