Once they were changed into the battle fatigues, they went back to the colonel's office to find out what to do next. Colonel Bratton was speaking with his assistant about battle strategy. The assistant's name was Lieutenant George Birmingham.
When Arwen and Thomas walked in, Lieutenant Birmingham stopped and stared for moment. Then he turned to the colonel, a bit surprised.
"Uhh ... sir? When did we get new recruits?" He asked. "And is that one a woman?" He pointed at Arwen when he asked the last question.
"Yes, Lieutenant. She is a woman. And no, they're not official recruits yet. They were the ones who told me about the Japanese battleships, headed our way. I told them that they could fight alongside our men to protect our country. Besides, in an attack like this, we are gonna need every able-bodied man and woman who know how to fight. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson here are both willing to fight and know how to fight also." Colonel Bratton replied.
"Yes, sir." Lt. Birmingham answered. With that, he saluted and walked out of the office. The colonel turned to Arwen and Thomas and motioned for them to sit down in the chairs in his office.
"Sorry about him. He just stressed about the soon-to-be attack is all." Colonel Bratton stated.
"Oh, it's fine. Don't worry about it. We're not after all." Arwen responded. "We just wanna help protect the country like you said."
"Oh okay. That's great. Wonderful in fact. Now let's go to the armory to get you guys some weapons." Colonel Bratton agreed.
So, to the armory, they went. Colonel Bratton gave them each a M1 Garand, a Remington 31, and a Bolo knife. (A M1 Garand is a type of rifle they used in WWII. A Remington 31 is a type of a handgun that also used in WWII. A Bolo knife is a knife they used in WWII, too.)
"You do know how to use these, right?" Colonel Bratton inquired.
"Yes, my father and brothers were in the military and so were her father and brothers. They all taught us how to use these weapons. We also know exactly what they are called." Thomas responded.
"Alright! Then let's go talk about what we're gonna do in my office." Colonel Bratton said. With that, they went back to the colonel's office to talk about battle strategies.
