𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞 was over the moon. She was Troy Bolton. The Troy Bolton. Captain of the Wildcats and the lead for High School Musical: The Musical.

Looking to her left, she saw Gina smiling widely, arms ready to engulf the older girl. Cassie happily took it, giggling at the cinnamon scent.

"Good job, Cass," she heard her say. She pulled away from the hug, watching as Gina's eyes glinted in joy for her. "Or should I say Troy Bolton?"

Cassie laughed, "Only if you want to." All thoughts about EJ and Nini canoodling were out of her mind. She was too busy feeling the buzz of accomplishing something this big.

She had to tell her brother.

Cassie engulfed Gina in a tight hug once more before running off to the nearest washroom. She had ran past Nini in her haste, not noticing how the Filipina was forcing her smile down.

Okay, maybe Nini was way too happy that it was Cassie but she only felt like this because she was glad that it wasn't Ricky (that had to be the explanation... right?).

She knew she shouldn't have been this excited to be the Gabriella to Cassie's Troy. She knew she shouldn't have felt this happy to think about playing the other girl's love interest, even if it was fake.

She shook the thoughts off. Nini decided this was just excitement from getting cast as Gabriella. It was normal to want to play a love interest of someone who was kind, smart and perfect in real life (at least she could admit that she was getting sidetracked. That was something, right?). Hell, she'd even be this excited if she was playing that part with her ex. The one that shattered her heart into pieces. Who stomped on it over and over and over again (something that Cassie would never d–shut up, Nini) after she poured it out.

Nini continued to mindlessly comfort her manic boyfriend from bursting into tears over the part. This had thrown her into a loop.

Inside the washroom, the Cassie bounced impatiently as her phone rang. She couldn't stay still if she tried.

"Hello?" Connor Lanes groggily asked through the phone, sounding as if he just woke up (their mother always called him a lazy bum). "Cassie? Why are you calling me?"

She missed the underlying tone, too excited to even care at this point. "Con! I got the lead!"

She heard faint rustling behind the phone before the deep voice spoke up once more. "You got Gabriella? That's great!"

Cassie watched herself as she winced in front of the mirror. She scratched her head. "Actually..."

"Actually what?" Connor knew Cassie's actually's meant that she was hiding something.
