Flashback explanation
January 15th. Bedtime (2100 hours), Rico's POV.
We had just finished dinner and now was getting ready for bed. "Alright boys, time to go to bed," Skipper declared. "I want you all up by 0600 hours tomorrow." The lights were turned off. The only source of light in the room was a lava lamp that Kowalski recently found and kept for the penguins. There were mumbles of "Good night" from everyone (in my case it was just some babbling that I hope sounded like the words). My original plan was actually to wait until everyone had fallen asleep before I got up and went to my secret room (A small room that I quickly dug, the entrance is behind the ladders, opened by a switch hidden under the TV). But apparently I fell asleep first.
January 16th. Early Morning (0000 hours), Rico's POV.
I slowly opened my eyes as I slowly woke up. At first I wondered why I was waking up, but then I remembered what I wanted to do. I glanced at a clock on the wall. The time read 0000 hours. Sweet! All I heard was snoring, so I carefully and quietly got up and out of my bunk. Yep, everyone was sleeping. Kowalski was facing towards the wall, snoring heavily. Skipper was lying flat on his stomach, muttering some things. "Must be a dream." Private was facing outwards, snoring lightly. I chuckled lightly.
None of them were gonna wake up until a good few hours. I headed over towards the tv, lifted it and pressed the button. I then heard a click that told me the door had been unlocked. I walked over to the ladder and pulled. The bottom of the ladder swung open, showing a short tunnel into a room. I walked in and closed the door behind me. The door clicked, showing that it was locked again. I can open the door from inside through a button as well. I don't even know how I set the system up, I just did somehow and was proud of it.
My secret room wasn't very large, but it was large enough that I could stand to my full height, have room for a brick, which was my small table a bed and a small sitting area. The floor was made of concrete while the walls, I managed to decorate with a lot of twigs I picked up and packed into the dirt, so at least I had a nice wall. I regurgitated a lighter and lit the candles in the room so I could see. Then I spit out the bag with the books inside it.
I started off with the stealth and fighting techniques book. It seemed like the first part of the book was filled with exercises. "Huh. Maybe I should do a quick warm up first before trying these things?" I quickly made space for a training area in my small room. I checked my clock. 0030 hours. Alright then, that means I get 30 minutes of warm up.
Once 30 minutes has passed, I sit down and regain my breath before I look at the techniques and see if I can read what its trying to teach me. Seems like there was a few on stealth, such as blending in and moving quietly. Although we already knew how to do that, I decided to see and train myself in what the book had to offer. I was impressed. In an hour I had decided that my stealth skills were definitely improved. Should be useful on missions... and pranking the others, heheh.
I then moved on and tried some of the basic fighting positions and techniques such as strikes. To practice, I just kept repeating movements, as I had no one to practice with. I knew most of these techniques were most likely only useful against attackers around my height, but you never know. The pressure point techniques though would be fun to do.
At 0200 hours, I stopped and tried to understand the weapons book. I tried to memorise the weapons I saw. I was gonna have to get materials and make them from scratch because penguins are smaller than humans. I quickly moved on to trying to understand the next book, which was on relaxation and stretching. To be honest, I was tempted skipping this book but I'm glad I didn't. It was really helping me to unwind after that training session.
