It was a blur. At most, I could see the difference in the light around me. The darkness filling my sight for an immense time before the sudden rush of light filling my senses. It made me want to tense up but I was too weak.
I could hear the muffled crashes and talking around me as I felt the pain diminishing. I started to see a tunnel of light as the pain toned down. I wanted to reach towards it as I found comfort in it. It was relieving my pain and I didn't feel as weak as I do within it.
I felt the shock back into the pain. The muffled, fuzzy world in which I continued to suffer in. The faint speech seemed filled with desperate intent. I let my eyes fall close as I went back to the warm light.
I followed the tunnel of warm light as it encapsulated me with comfort. The pain was leaving and peace was entering. The light shifted enough for me to feel truly happy. It was a soft white room and there was a puzzle being finished by...
Stan...?
Electricity coursed through my body and I sat up only to fall back down. My breathing was heavy, but I was in pain again. My vision had not recovered fully. I saw lights pass every for few seconds.
Feet pounded beside me and muffled yelling came from it. Everything was fast but faint. I let my eyes close, too lethargic to keep my eyes open. The black emptiness was enough for me. It provided comfort, but not like the light's warm.
My eyes opened for the third time and I saw the spotted texture on the ceiling above me. I glanced to the tv and saw the abundance of colors that I once could not. Checking the clock posted on the wall, I saw the time was 10:56am. Almost mid day.
I couldn't tell if this was a dream or not, so I looked to my hand. I found a few needles probed in my arm with a band at my wrist.
'Kaspbrak, Edward,' it read, 'Dr. Logan Smith, DOB: 09/03/1976,
ADM: 07/27/2016,
40Y M A'
A string of various other numbers followed under it which didn't mean much to me. The door opened and I attentively looked it's way.
A nurse smiled to me as she walked in, "You're finally awake. How are you feeling?"
I rubbed my head and stated, "A bit groggy, but fine at best."
"That's good to know," She cleared a part of the whiteboard and scribbled her name down, "You were only out for a day. You're lucky you've got great friends. They got you here before your time was up."
I furrowed my brows and look down in thought. I don't remember much of what happened. "What do you mean?" I asked, looking back up to her.
She was already over, checking the monitors near me, "You were all kinds of messed up. A stab wound on the face and a hole in your torso. We worked on you all night and your friend refused to leave your side."
She gestured over me to the window. I followed her hand to see Richie, passed out cold in a chair. A soft smile creeped on my face as I saw him out cold in the chair. The fact he was here through all this is something I could never repay him for.
"He might be the reason you're still alive right now." She added.
She's most likely right. That only gives more shit to tease him with now. She finally finished checking on everything and smiled to me, "If you need anything, call us by using the button on the remote."
"Thank you," I smiled faintly back and she left the room.
It was then quiet again, except for the faint mumble from the remote which played the tv's audio. I looked back to the window, past Richie.
It was a sunny day. No cloud in sight. Just the sun shinning down on Derry, Maine. Everything seemed at peace.
Then Richie woke up.
