The start of where it all began...
Marisol found herself often searching through the crowd for her friend Lucas whenever she felt uncomfortable or uneasy. She watched as his muscles shifted under his loose blue t-shirt, grinning to herself as she admired the way he throws his head back and lets out a howl of a laugh, just as he did when they were kids. Then he looks over at her from the group of guys that surrounded him. Her breath caught in her throat as he lazily smiled over at her, jerking his head towards the house gesturing for her to meet him inside. Marisol looked over at her best friend Vera who was deep in conversation with their friends Ava and Isabell.
When Marisol looked back to where Lucas was standing she noticed he was already heading inside. She followed soon after, the music from the party muffled as she closed the screen door to the living room. Had she been drinking to much? She though to herself curiously as she wobbled through the room, where was he...
A rough hand clamped over hers and pulled her into the hall, Lucas pressed Marisol against the wall and spun a strand of her hair around his finger.
Marisols mind was spinning due to too much alcohol, she knew she'd have a horrible hang over in the morning. Lucas lips slid against Marisols for only a second, he didn't know what had gotten into him. He hadn't had a thing to drink but all night but he's been watching her, the night shifted into something Lucas never thought it would. He realized how badly he wanted to kiss her but she shifted under his weight and giggled. "Madeline would lose her head if she seen us alone together," she slid out of Lucas grasp, wobbling slightly.
"You should get some rest, I'm going to tell everyone to go home," Lucas sighed in relief thankful that Marisol was too intoxicated to realize this time he wasn't just playing with her. He was falling for her and he didn't know how long he has been. Marisol leaves tomorrow to Hawaii and the thought almost made him sick, he didn't want her to leave, not without her telling her... But tonight wasn't the night, after all she probably wouldn't even remember half of the night.
"Could you carry me?" She groaned leaning into him. "My room seems so far away," she yawned tiredly, too tired to even care that she and Lucas her childhood crush, had almost kissed.
Lucas was surprised she even agreed to call it a night but he scooped her up and gently walked up the stairs as she coherently babbled. "I bet being you has its perks," she said as Lucas laid her onto her bed.
"What do you mean?"
"Everyone loves you," she said simply meeting Lucas gaze in the dark room. "I love you Luc but you always knew that." Something shifted in her eyes, a loneliness she never exposed often but Lucas watched as a tear slid down the side of her face.
"I love you." She would never know how much, how could he even tell his best friend he was falling for her? If she didn't feel the same he would lose her, and Marisol was the only thing that felt right and beautiful in his life. She has always been his crutch, someone Lucas could escape too, to be 100% himself. He couldn't lose that, and she deserved far better then Lucas could ever give her. Maybe she knew that.
