Today is Saturday, which means it's the day of the party and I have to hang out with Carter. The past two days went by fairly quickly and normal with the occasional funny things that Lyric says. Since mom and dad are out of town I no longer have to sneak out to go to the party even though Travis is coming to 'checkup' on me but they don't know that he is the first person I've ever smoked a joint with so I know that I won't need to worry about him. Instead I invited Lyric and Cass over to have a pre-party and to get ready with; I still haven't told them about carter though. The party starts at 8:00 and its 6:50, so we have about two hours to get ready. I'm kind of nervous about tonight not about the party but about having to hang out with Carter, I understand why he would ask me to hang out with him but I wonder if there is any other reason why he wants to hang out with me. Something about Carter is really interesting and how outgoing he is, I never had the courage to just ask somebody to hang out with me at a party won't he think I'm gonna cock block him, I mean there are going to be a lot of hot girls there. The doorbell interrupts my thoughts so I run downstairs to the front door to answer it.
"Ahhhhhh!" Cass and Lyric squealed enveloping me in a hug.
"Release me you peasants!" I yelled to the both of them. They let me go and ran up the stairs to my room. I wonder what they're doing so I follow their steps and walk into my room to see clothes thrown around everywhere. "What are you guys doing, I just cleaned!" scolding them.
Cass raises her hands in the air the same way somebody would if the police held them at gunpoint. "This, is what you are wearing tonight!" Lyric says holding up a black strapless dress that I got sometime last year for my aunts wedding which I never had the chance to wear because her ex-fiancé walked in on her having sex with his brother in their room so the wedding was canceled. I forgot I had it, after I found out the wedding was canceled I just put it in the back of my closet tucked away, until now.
Cass holds the dress up to me. "Go, try it on."
I groan and walk myself to the bathroom shutting the door behind me. You know how girls have to hop, jump, and wiggle to get something on; well that's what I had to do to get that dress on. When I finally got it on I looked at myself in the mirror, the dress fit me in all the right places revealing some of my chest but not too much and it ended mid-thigh. Taking one last look in the mirror I walk out the bathroom and back into my bedroom to see Lyric and Cass getting dressed themselves, they turn to look at me and their eyes widen and jaws drop. "What is there something wrong, does it look that bad?" I ask panicked by their looks.
"No, you look-" Cass starts looking me up and down.
"Bad a'f!" Lyric finishes. I knew I didn't look that good but Lyric didn't have to be so rude about it. I gave Lyric a dirty look and she looked puzzled.
"Girl, when black people say a female looks 'bad' it doesn't mean they look bad it means they're... uhh. Well it's hard to explain, but it is a good thing when I say it so don't take it the wrong way." she explains and I nod. Cass comes behind me with a face that means she is concentrating on something, on what I don't know but I'm sure I'll find out pretty soon.
"What are you thinking about?" I ask Cass.
"Just what we're going to do with your hair." she says.
"What I want to know is, who's going to be the designated driver tonight. Because it sure as hell ain't gonna be me!" Lyric says, jokingly.
Cass and I give each other a stare down until one of us cracks and of course it's Cass. Works every time.
She sighs rolling her eyes at me. "Fine I'll be the designated driver, only because I have work tomorrow though so don't expect it to be me every time."
