There was a boy who you met online, who convinced you to move to Gotham city and away from the small town you grew up in. Ignoring your better judgment you agreed, selling everything you owned and leaving never to look back. You waited at the train station for 4 hours before you decided he wasn't coming, and you would have to make your way in Gotham on your own.

This had led you to spend the rest of your day searching for a job, the next three days actually and you were almost out of money, spending what you had on the cheapest motel you could find.

Saving and budgeting was never your strong suit, so when you had no job lined up, about 34$ left to your name and a motel room that smelled so bad you couldn't help but want to be anywhere else, you found yourself putting on a nice dress and making your way to the closest club that was open at 2 pm on a Friday. Much earlier than these types of places got busy.

You had hoped you could charm your way through a few drinks but the bar was so empty all you could do was sit there, with your head in your hands as you sipped on the one drink you could afford.

"Ma'am, bars closing for an hour, you will have to leave."

"Leave? But I just got here."

"Sorry, the boss is holding...interviews."

"Interviews!" You perk up and lean over the counter, "Wha's the job?" You ask wide-eyed and he chuckles at your excitement.

"Lounge singer, can you sing?"

You smile wide sitting back into your seat and then sliding your drink forward.

"I can! Switch this for a water, pretty please?" You ask and the bartender obliges, pushing your alcoholic drink back towards you and handing you a second cup of just water.

"Trust me you'll need both," He says and then leaves to clean the bar.

You sit on your barstool and wait for anyone else to arrive. Twenty minutes pass before a man in a red suit comes in with a blond man behind him. The man brings a gloved hand to his face as he peers around the room.

"You are telling me not one applicant showed up?" He gawks in disbelief.

"Well no one applied beforehand but I assumed some girls would show up, even some of the less classy ones of Gotham, you'd think they'd die to work in a place like this."

"I don't want those types singing in my club," the man groans and you chug your water, wiping the corners off your mouth as you walk over.

"Hi, I'm actually here for the interview, I don't actually have a resume or anything, but I'm here..."

"No resume?" The blond man rolls his eyes.

"No, because actually, I just moved here and was sitting at the bar and got told to leave, but I can sing, really well actually and I'm desperate for a job so if you'd just give me a chance?" You say now rambling.

"I guess you're our only choice, there's the stage go ahead." he gestures as he relaxes into a seat.

Suddenly you are thankful for the drink the bartender gave you, it helped a bit to calm your nerves, with no music playing you take a deep breath, grab the microphone and begin a soft jazz type song, your sweet voice floats through the air as you close your eyes and focus. You are visibly nervous but you hope the lack of competition gets you the job. If they are as desperate for a singer as you are for a job.
