“Could Sapphire and Sophia Russo please report to the principal’s office immediately,” a woman said over the intercom. The Russo sisters sighed and headed off in the opposite direction.
The hallway filled with an ‘ooo’ sound from the other students that were crowding the hallways getting books from their lockers.
“Guys seriously? It’s their first day of school and you think they’re already in trouble?” Brooke asked.
“Shut up, nerd,” a jock shouted back earning a laugh from the other students in the hall way.
“No! I will not shut up! You can’t tell me what to do!”
“Do you want me to make you, little girl?” he asked in a threatening tone taking a step towards her, clenching his hand into a fist. He towered over her, her being only about 4’10” and him being at least 6 feet tall.
“Go ahead! Hit me! I dare you! I’ll be happy to see you get expelled!” she shouted.
The jock stood there with a shocked expression across his face as Brooke stood up to him in a hallway full of students.
Who does she think she is? He thought.
“Go on then, hit me. What’s wrong? Do you not have the nerve? You’re usually not bothered. Hit me!” Brooke egged him on.
He drew his hand back, clenched into a fist and threw a punch at her left cheek which she dodged by ducking. He stared at her for a moment before taking another swing at her which she dodged again.
“Nice try, pretty boy,” she smirked.
Anger flared in the boys’ eyes before he ran towards her.
She smirked. This guy just won’t give up!
She started to run towards him before sliding along the floor taking his legs out from under him causing him to fall. A snap sounded through the hallway as his hand connected with the floor.
Brooke stood up pushing her glasses further up her nose and straightening out her clothes before walking away as if nothing happened. Everyone stood looking at her in shock.
The jock stood cradling his arm. His eyes flared with as he stared after her. Everyone got back to talking with their friends and collecting books from their lockers as he yelled. “What are you all staring at? Run along.”
“Dude – you just got beaten up – by a girl. No wait – not only a girl. The nerdiest girl in school,” the jocks friend said with a chuckle.
“Shut up, Scott,” the jock snapped before walking away down the hall.
“Hey, Chase. Wait up man, sorry,” Scott said chasing after him. “I was just joking, but you’ve never been beaten before.”
Chase shrugged. “There’s a first for everything, I guess.”
“How’s your arm? You should probably go see the school nurse.”
“It’s fine,” Chase said shaking it out.
“Everyone heard the snap. It broke. How are you doing that?”
“It didn’t break. It’s fine. My wrist just cracked.”
“No – it broke. I saw the way your arm bent the wrong way.”
“It’s fine – I’m going to class. See you at lunch, bro,” Chase said patting his friend on the back and walking away.
