I closed the door behind me and when I turned around, I saw my mom staring at me from the kitchen.

"Hi." She said.

"Hi." I replied.

"How are you?"

"I don't know, why do you care?" I snapped back.

"Just wondering. Why was there blood in your room?"

"None of your business."

"I'm the mom, it is my business." She had a point.

"I cut myself on my dresser by accident."

"Oh yeah? Then why did you have to sneak through the window to get to school?"

"Because you would've thought I went to Jessie's house instead of school. I was trying to avoid getting yelled at again." I wasn't in the mood to talk to her right now.

"What's that?" She asked about the crumpled piece of paper in my hand.

"Nothing." I said plainly.

"What's that?" She asked again, this time more sternly.

"Its my homework that I need to do. I decided to not write on my hand." Why did she care about my life all of a sudden.

"Fine." She said and turned around, apparently making something with rum in it. Not surprised.

I rolled my eyes and went upstairs. Was she actually trying to act like a mom again? If she was, she wasn't really trying too hard. I honestly didn't care anymore. It was because of her that I cut myself so much and I get yelled at all the time and beaten. She's the reason I enjoy going to Jess's house so much and leaving this prison. She's the reason I actually like school and doing homework and tuning this place out. Couldn't she see that?! Was I not being clear enough?!

After about an hour of homework, I decided to go over to Jessie's house to have dinner. I forgot to change my bandages around my arm so right before I left, I snuck into the bathroom to change them really quick. To hide them so I wouldn't get any questions from Jessie's mom, I wore a gray sweatshirt with a pink scarf and jeans.

"Where are you going?" My mom asked. I forgot to sneak through my window but I decided to just go with it.

"Jessie's house. Her mom invited me to dinner."

"Oh? And why didn't she invite me?"

'Because you're a psycho path' I wanted to say but instead just said, "I don't know, it was mainly so I could spend more time with Jessie."

"Fine." She said plainly and went back to eating rice.

A part of me felt really bad about that situation but another part of me knew she deserved getting rejected.

"This is delicious!" I told Jessie's mom.

"Thank you Grace! I never get too much praise around here." She looked right at Jessie and we all laughed.

"Don't listen to her. She just likes getting complimented." Jessie's older brother, Tyler, told me.

I smiled and said, "Well I don't mind giving compliments on this incredible food." I've always liked Tyler. He's really nice and cute, not trying to be weird for Jessie or anything.

"So, what does your mom usually cook?" Jessie's mom asked me and Jess and I just looked at each other.

"Well, um, you know. Just the usual I guess. She doesn't really cook all the time."

"Oh ok. Well, you're welcome over here anytime!" She said with a gleaming smile.

"I would love that." Tyler winked at me and I smiled. Jessie made a gagging noise. Tyler always does that. He flirts with every single one of Jessie's friends just to gross her out. I loved it while she wasn't too fond of it.

"Thanks for coming over dear!" Jessie's mom said as I was leaving.

"Thank you for having me over." I said.

Just as I was leaving Tyler came to the door and leaned against the door frame like those guys in the movies."Just wanted to say bye to my favorite girl." He winked and Jessie made exaggerating gagging noises in the background.

"Haha, bye Tyler."

"Goodbye." Then he hugged me. He's flirted with me so many times but has never hugged me.

"OH MY GOSH! MOM! GET IN HERE! TYLER'S RAPPING GRACE! OH MY LANTA!" Jessie said.

"Jess calm down!" Tyler yelled and I turned around to leave.

"Oh hey Grace!" When I was only a block from my house, Brandon pulls up next to me.

"Are you spying on me or something?" I joked and we both laughed.

"Do you need a ride?" He asked me with that cute little half smile.

"No, I'm ok. My house is just a block from here."

"Ok, well see you tomorrow."

"Bye." I said and he drove off.

Even that small conversation was enough to make me remember it forever. He smiled at me! He offered me a ride! He actually stopped to say hi! This was incredible. Just as I was approaching my house, I saw Alex coming up the street with his friends.
