Dear writers of Wattpad,
Okay, so LaurenSweetHeart basically just asked me to write an inspiration letter to all of you wonderful Wattpaders!
Mmh... where do I begin? Oh yeah! When I started writing...lol :)
Well, I started out writing at the age of thirteen. As a kid, I was never the one who was really into 'reading' or 'writing'. It wasn't until I started watching anime that I really got into
reading. I know, you're probably thinking, "What does that have anything to do with writing?" Well, it's simple really. Anime caused me to read mangas, which caused me to read
longer novels, which caused me to want to bring my own anime characters to life, which caused me to begin writing. Oh, and don't forget about boredom! Without that, I don't think I would have written my first story one bit.
Now, being seventeen, looking back... my first story was a disaster. So many grammar and spelling mistakes! And oh God... the plot. *cringes* It was bad... my friend had to edit
it for me. If she didn't, I don't think anyone would have understood it. But I did post it to my first ever writing site; Fictionpress. (I miss you!) ... Not really... at first I thought
Fictionpress was the best writing site on the Internet (well that's because I didn't know any other writing sites), but it was totally not. Sure you could comment on
someone' story and send feedback to the writers, but there were many problems with FP. Like the fact that people loved to steal your stories, writers takes months to update,
and there was no interaction at all with the fans. I'd been on FP for three years and I think I only made like two friends on there. Here on Wattpad, I'd made so many friends (I'm
grateful to all of you!)... and I've only been here for eight months.
I actually found Wattpad through Fictionpress, so I guess I'm thankful for Fictionpress. One of my favorites writers on that site said they were moving to Wattpad for 'reasons' and
I decided to check it out. At first I was really confused... I guess I was just used to FP... but I gave it a shot. At first I was just going to read on Wattpad, since there were lots of
good stories, but then I was like, "Why not upload my stories on here?" So I did... I uploaded three at first. No one really read them at first, but a week later, I got a fan!! "OMG...
my first fan!" Yup that's exactly what I said. So I checked her profile out, and I found that her stories were really good as well! So I fanned her! (Sadly she's not on here no more :/)
So yeah... I wasn't really 'famous' (yeah I put it in quotes), when I first started out. I only had a few fans to begin with, and I was happy with that. But now lots of people messaged
me, asking, "How I got so popular?" The answer is simple really... it's luck. There's not a sure fire way to get 'popular'. The only thing I did was paste my stories on to the
discussion forms under the 'share your story' club... and I guess people liked it, and brought my stories to the 'What's Hot List'. From there on, I guess Wattpad advertised my
stories for me. So really... I didn't do anything.
If your stories isn't on the 'What's Hot List' that doesn't mean you should give up on writing. You write because you love it, not because you want 'fans'. I mean, when I first
started out writing, I wasn't great, but I didn't give up, and I continued on writing for the people who actually liked reading my stories. So if I didn't give up, you shouldn't too!
But here's a sure way to get people to 'click' on your stories! Covers, people! For me, if a cover catches my eye, I'll click on it, and then I'll read their summary. If I liked your
summary then, I'll start reading your chapter. So I guess your summary is important too, but covers really do it for people. If you're not good at making covers, there's clubs for
that! Many people would enjoy helping out on that, even me!! (Hehe, yes, I do love making covers!!)
Anyways... another question people fluently asked me is how I came up with my ideas? Well here's my answer to you, "I don't know". Lol... just kidding! You see, I write what I
like to read. I'm a sucker for romance, so yeah, most of the stories I write will have something to do with romance. Ideas just randomly pop in my head, at the strangest of
moments; like for an example. One time, I was in my economics class in school, and we were reading a play about... um, okay I really have no idea what, since I was spacing out most of the time. Even though I had no idea what we were doing, I came up with an awesome plot for a new story! (It's not up yet, but I would love to write it soon...) I got so excited, I had to write it down. So while they were reading a play, I was writing my plot down so I wouldn't forget it. (Hehe, don't worry, my teacher never find out!)
So yeah, just keep an open mind, you never know, your best idea might come to you at the most strangest moments! :) Like I said before, don't give up on your dream, if you love
writing, follow your dream! Even if you get a bad comment; shrug it off. Sure they might hurt at first, (it hurts me sometimes as well) but just remember, you have your fans, and the people who actually love your stories. Take that comment, and turn it into something good. Prove to them that you can write, and that your story is good! It doesn't matter if you're undiscovered, if you continue to work hard, I'm sure your hard work will pay off at the end. Just you wait :)
And with this, I end my letter. Good luck my friends! I hope you have a wonderful time writing on Wattpad, because I know I will xD
Love,
Angel
