Twenty Two

I sat next to Susan she smiled brightly at me and told me that I looked wonderful today, I looked down at my frumpy clothes. Susan really is acting weird I laughed to myself. But I had to set my plan into work, Rose said I could be her assistant that I will only get paid minimum wage but I could help her with everything and it will let me be around the planned parenthood without another incident like before, I would be helping other mothers with their babies and I will get a good feel for it. I gladly accepted the application.

"Susan", I said her name making her peek over at me and then back at the road giving me a reassuring hmm letting me know she's listening but still driving safely, "A woman was in the library today and while I was typing on the computer to find the book I was looking, for she asked if I was organized, I didn't lie and told her a little and that I could be if needed to. She said she was looking for an assistant, young and willing to get paid minimum wage. And well I'm just saying this because I got an application, it's right down the road from the library, its the planned parenthood. And I think it could be fun". I grabbed the application out of my folder and looked at it flipping it in my hands hoping to get her attention.

"You're going to have to use that on your dad, I think it's a wonderful idea but I can't tell you yes if your dad says no". I nodded some how knowing she was going to say that.

"I know". I waited until the car came to a complete stop and I climbed out of the car running into the house. "DAD". I hollered as I entered into the house, he peered around the corner from the kitchen.

"In here kiddo'. I skipped into the kitchen slipping on the wet floor and falling on my butt with a painful bam. "ARE YOU OKAY"! Dad yelled over our laughter, I couldn't believe I did that. I put my hand on my stomach unsure what that will do but I held it as I stood with the aide of my dad.

"Well that was different". I laughed sitting down at the table giggling.

"What's so funny"? Susan asked walking into the kitchen not slipping once despite her heels.

"Ann had a little trip". Dad busted out laughing again holding his sides.

"Hey now it's not that funny you should have warned me you were mopping". I threw my hands in the air and then pointing towards the mop leaning against the counter.

"I'm sorry darling". He leaned in kissed my forehead walking towards Susan dipping her and kissing her as well.

"So did you talk to him about it"? Susan asked after he lifted her and set her back on two feet, I shook my head looking at their loving affection for each other. It was so sweet.

"Ask me what"?

"Well when I was at the library I got offered a job for a few hours after school. And I really want to, to buy my own things and save all the extra money I have left over". I looked longingly at dad silently praying he says yes so I can have an excuse to be at planned parenthood.

"Well what will you be doing"?

"I will be working as a nurse's assistant, running paper work answering phones. Just office stuff. At planned parenthood". I saw my dad's face brighten a little and I felt good.

"That sounds wonderful". He dashed to my side pulling me in for a hug, I smiled and hugged him back.

"I have to fill this out", I ran from the kitchen to my room to fill out the application. I found I had to leave a lot spots blank but it was fine the nurse knew I was going to have some trouble doing this. I smiled brightly at my first finished application, I jumped online and checked my email, one new email.

"Dear Growing Woman,

There is no need to be sorry I shouldn't have tried to get in your business and personally I have to commend you for it. I don't know many young rape victims that ended up pregnant and will keep the child. Hope everything words out

Lou isn't talking to me anymore, he followed me to planned parenthood and saw me signing in. We had an argument. But on a better note if I get caught there again at least I will be on pay roll. A kind nurse Rose has offered me a job and my dad and step mom thinks it is a nice idea, I am going to try and keep this a secret for as long as I can. I logged off the computer yawning and climbing into bed, better get my rest first day of work tomorrow. I fell asleep with a smile on my face and a hand on my stomach.
