Carter's pov:
I'm standing in front of that girl's penthouse apartment door. According to my investigator, she lives here.
I ring repeatedly at the doorbell, while tapping my foot on the floor, in irritation.'Keep your cool, Carter' my inner mind spoke.
I try to open the door anyway and thankfully, I'm able to get inside.
It has a huge fireplace, a billiards table, and a huge plasma television and entertainment system.
There's a sofa set and a massive rug in front of the fireplace.
Towards the center, beside the door leading to the balcony that has a wonderful view of the Empire State Building, you can see a huge king-sized bed.
I look to my right and see that instead of walls, there are big paneled windows framed by intricate draperies.
The apartment is one massive space, no separate bedroom.'Not bad, huh'
Suddenly I hear a noise behind me so I turn around to see that girl standing with a gun in her hands.
She's shaking, her chin trembling and tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
She starts approaching me, her weapon pointed at me.'Fuck, what I got myself into'
''W-who are y-you?"
"Are you insane?? Put that thing down right away!"
"Are you kidding me? Someone just broke into my house, and you're calling me insane?" she says in a rush, her voice raspy.
"Girl, we've met this morning..I came to apologize for bumping into your car..
Can you put that gun down now? I'm too young to die just yet." I try to calm her down.
She gulps, slowly brings the gun down and glares at me menacingly.I take a step forward but stop immediately when she says, "Don't move."
She is a tiny girl and I feel my heart twisting at her fragile state.
Her golden eyes peeping up at me under her long lashes.'Guess I scared her to death. Although I ain't that bad looking'
"What's your name?" She asks, clearly getting clamer than she was before.
"Noah. Noah Kingston."
"Noah," she whisperes, my name rolling off her tongue as if the word itself has been laced with molasses. Her voice was deep yet soft and it vibrates throughout my body.
I hate to admit it, but I like how my name sounded when it came from her. I liked how she said it, almost gently.I raise a brow at her and ask, "Do you think you can talk to me now?"
"Get out."
"Look, I just want to let you know that I'm really sorry about this morning. Let me make it up to you." I try to convince her.
"Leave me alone and just get out!" She raises her voice so I turn around to leave but my eyes fall on some lipsticks that are placed in front of her mirror.
I walk up there and hold one to write my phone number on the surface.'Carter always gets what he wants'
"In case you change your mind. I'm just a call away." I say while looking at her through the mirror and leave her there, confused and shocked.
Adira's pov:
I exhale annoyingly and sit down on the couch. I observe the number that is written on my mirror.
"My game. My rules. My plan. My steps." Saying that, I aim at the mirror and shoot, breaking it and letting the pieces fall on the floor.
"Not so easy Carter. Not so easy. I'm hard to get." I smirk.
